I intend on building the story some before introducing all of the characters. Do you think that is a good plan?

I do. I've read a lot of books and most of them begin in two different ways. 1: Introduce all the characters separately and then introduce the main problem that brings them all together to solve it. 2: Start with the problem first and ease into introducing the characters as you go along
