Zavala is a leader. Leaders have to put aside their personal feelings for the good of those they lead. The city very recently was attacked (and conquered) by outside forces. It would be stupid to send all our defenses to the reef just to have a bunch of hive come from the moon or vex come from Venus and lay waste to everything. The City is not invincible and Zavala knows this. Zavala is not showing inaction. He is showing priority towards the good of humanity, not revenge. From the point of view of the survival of humanity us going on a revenge mission was irresponsible. Don't get me wrong it made an awesome story, but from a strategic standpoint was not the best outside of arguing that it was pre-emptively attacking our enemies. People weren't a fan of Zavala in Warmind either but from his point of view Ana was a selfish deserter who abandoned her people when they needed her to meddle with forces that could destroy the City. Can't blame him for seeing it that way. Zavala is kind of the father figure of the City. He has to protect his children.

  • If I could put in my two cents being a leader is what’s doing what’s best for your people right? So how is letting all the vex hive and fallen from the prison of elders run loose and wreak havoc good for your people? Or standing by while scorn gain power? Best defense is a good offense NOT standing by while enemy grows strength.

  • True. I haven't finished the campaign yet so I dunno what they are up to. Their overall plan may be pretty bad for the City. Right now it sounds like what Zavala said. If they want a lifeless stretch of rock let them have it.

  • No. Zavala is indecisive and full of doubts. You see it in the grimoire. You see it in the dialogue and flavor text. And you see it in His actions and lack thereof. He’s a weak leader. No decision is still a decision. He’s not a leader, he’s not a Titan. He’s a bureaucrat.

  • His decision is to defend the city over running around the system. He definitely has shown his doubt over the stories of D1 and D2, but him feeling that way and defending the city does not make him less of a defender of the city. Heck, one of the titan subclasses was defender, which was all about protecting. If you look at the lore there are different titan orders, who have different philosophies. Your view is more like the firebreak order, which Saint 14 was a part of, which is about the best defense being an offense. Saint 14 is one of my favorites and is also a defender, but was part of a different philosophical group. Zavala is part of the order that built the walls and established the city, so its protection comes first in their and his eyes.

Honestly i agree, I really like how they made zavala. He doesn't care about the traveler, he cares about his people. He has seen countless wars and has seen what those battles have caused on his people and guardians

  • In all fairness... Zavala holed up on Titan afraid to die. Ana was like "Go big or become extinct."

  • True true. All the characters went through their crap in the vanilla campaign. The main thing was to regroup though, although he lost hope after a while there.

  • Haha probably because I have been a defender/sentinel since the beginning of D1 so that is kinda their gig. And I'm a dad so that probably factors in too.
