What about the Consul? Doesn't he have some level of military rank (even if self proclaimed)?

  • From what I understand the Consul was skme sort of high ranking member of the cabal government before calus turned it on its head and banished Consul, seemingly out of spite. Consul then secretly and slowly convinced Ghaul (who was Calus's right hand dude) to betray the emperor for the sake of making a more expansive and conquer-focus empire instead of the relatively peaceful but gluttonous empire Calus was going for. So the Consul likely doesn't have any rank at all, other than being a sort of father figure/primary conspirator with Ghaul

  • Great explanation, but a couple things are a little off. Consul and the other people overthrown by Calus weren’t banished, they were stripped of rank and wealth and became normal citizens Consul found the abandoned child Ghual and saw potential in him, so raised him to be a tool to overthrow Calus and put Consul on top. Ghual, however, was too smart and put himself in charge, although kept Consul as an advisor

  • I seem to recall in one of the raid weapon lore tabs (not sure which one) that Calus singled the Consul out and humiliated him and banished him to the desert. I believe Calus's final words to him were "run" as he set him off into the white desert. So Consul definitely had a bone to pick with Calus, and he saw a method to get back at him through Ghaul

  • Wow that’s some cool stuff. You’re probably right cuz I haven’t read the Cabal booklet myself so I just assumed Consul was Cast out into the rioting crowds like the others had been

  • The Consul is HEAVILY implied to have been castrated by Calus, perhaps even publicly before he was sent into the desert.
The first act of my coronation was to have the Consul kneel at my feet. He was a pathetic figure, stripped of title, rank, and clothing. He would never wield power again, and would beget no heir. I made sure of that personally.
• The Consul seems more like a adviser or a errand to the Praetorate. Since everybody has their own name, it might be a special rank where it is like a rejection of everything personal to them? Even their name? So they wouldn't be known by their name anymore.

Most likely he is just classed purely as an advisor, so maybe that technically classes him as a civilian (maybe?)

  • Consul basically just serves as a general or advisor to Ghual. Before Calus took over Consul was part of the Military Council that rules the empire, but that position no longer exists
