What I don't understand about Renown is that for some reason the large explosive caches are affected by the damage penalty, but other explosives like Vex cubes and Cabal fuel tanks are perfectly fine.
How do you mess something like that up?

One of my concerns is why those big explosive caches are still THERE. They were used in the first rally as you got tokens from destroying them, but now they’re just an environmental hazard. And since dying removed renown stacks, and grenades/supers/Graviton Lance are all things in D2, more often than not they will explode and kill me.

They probably stayed because they could still be used to clear ads, but now they can barely do that since 4x or 5x Renown doesn't insta-kill them anymore. If they fixed/removed the damage penalty from the caches then there'd be a reason to keep them around.

But you don’t need them, is the thing. I hardly ever use them, and even if I wanted to, there are plenty of other environmental hazards to attack. Vex cubes, canal tanks, etc. We don’t need environmental hazards so much to the point where we die more than the enemy.

Indeed.
