I do want more customization. But now that I've gotten evidence that Bungie doesn't know how to do a character creator or anything of the sort, I now just leave my damn helmet on and pretend it doesn't even exist.
D1's was extremely underwhelming, to the point where I wondered why I even spent any time doing it at all. With D2 I thought there'd be a big overhaul to it. Beards, maybe a shit load new hair options, some sliders... I mean it's just the face, not even the whole character like most games.
Nope. The same character creator as D1. Nearly [i]exactly[/i] the same. Which is laughable.
So now, while I will be pleased if they do ever come up with something like you've suggested, I just pretend it's not even in the game.

I agree, I thought they were going to overhaul the whole creation too, and was rather pissed and turned off slightly when I realised it was the exact same as d1 Personally for me though, I can't leave my helmet on, from my way of thinking, I feel like my character is alive and actually needs some air to breathe haha, but I agree, some form of sliders so you can properly customise your character so it doesn't look like everyone else's action man or barbie doll would be ideal, and I think another way to bring in more players, I for one have a huge turn on soft of speak for good character Customisation. :)
