Well yeah it's like I said pretty much any nation that had power and modern innovation/weapons at the time. The Africans would have too if they had guns etc. In old times man took whatever they could. Not a good thing but it's how it was. Even now people at least take what they can get away with. Go to an island unarmed and see if a tribe doesn't rob you and either chain you up or kill you. Because at that point they have more power if you are weaponless.
