Nobody's complaining that she's a lesbian, we're complaining because this subplot is being jammed into the story unnecessarily.

So why do people keep specifically mentioning it? Almost as if they are veiling an attitude/opinion they know is problematic...
-
Because it's prevalent to the story. I mean, no sh*t there are people who don't like gay people, but that isn't what the issue is. Probably shouldn't have said nobody, I can't prove that there isn't some person who's worried about that over the more prevalent issues that the majority are complaining about. But the point is more than my initial wording. Most people take issue with this forced relationship and its prevalence over the development of the wider story, from what I can tell.
-
If it stopped at "forced relationship" or such descriptors, I would agree what you say was true. However in every thread I'm seeing phraseology like "SJW BS" and "Miss me with that gay shit" and so forth. Sorry, but the vast majority of posts I've seen have been obvious veiled homophobia. The worst kinds of racists and homophobes are the ones who cant even be honest with themselves.
-
First, "miss me with that gay shit" is a meme. If someone says it chances are it's a joke mocking people who are too concerned with their heterosexuality and their masculinity to deal with the actual issues. As for the "SJW BS," I did see a lot of that, but I do agree that forced 'diversity' is an issue, so I don't think that we'll agree on that issue. Take that as you will. I'd still say that this doesn't necessarily amount to homophobia. Also, we weren't talking about racism, so I'm not sure how that got involved. Like I said, the big issue isn't that homophobes exist, it's that this relationship sucks. I made a post with a poll a while back asking about the relationship. Most of the comments that I see aren't complaining about the character happening to be gay, just that it doesn't do anything. I also suspect that a number of people
"I have about 0 problems with her being a lesbian, thing that bothers me is the comic is basically 90% boring dialogue with her either drowning in water or sand in the background, with no reason to do so and not really giving us any actual lore other than the little blurb at the beginning from Rasputin." -ZandoBob
This is in reference to the previous comic, but the point still stands.
-
exactly this is the second comic in a row where they are adding lesbian subplot. i'm all for lesbian but i just dont care just as i would not care if they had a subplot of a straight person being in a relationship with another straight person UNLESS its involved in the main story of the comic or game... but its more on the side so who cares because we dont learn any ethics or value from that side story other then she is lesbian.
-
But if she were straight, no one would be complaining
-
You haven't been paying attention to this community if you don't think they complain about GODD*MN EVERYTHING. In all seriousness, I'm anti-romance subplot in more cases than not, regardless of the chromosomes involved. If Cayde was characterized by nothing but the loss of his family, he would wear thin really fast. Nobody wants this lame, overplayed romance.
-
nope. lots of people complained about the weird romance plot with banner and black widow that was FORCED into the story as a little side thing adding nothing to the value of the story itself other then saying "HEY WE ARE DISNEY AND WE GOT ROMANCE".
-
If they made a big romance novel like they did in the comic- yeah, people would still be irritated by it regardless of sexuality.
-
It'd still be a cheap, weakly written romance that has no relevance.
-
And people would unfortunately eat it up
-
Ifs funny how despite the whole world telling you that the romance was not needed in general and it did not have to be lesbian for people to hate it you still just stick to your guns that you are the only sane person in this world. Good for you its good to not let other people opinions change your mind.... not that makes you a likable person but i guess you have a unwavering goal in mind.
-
Being liked is not one of goals in life #Edgy #FiteMe
-
Thats true. Its cool to be alone. Btw what is with the hashtags? Im not a Twitter hashtag mongoloid i don’t understand what you are doing.
-
It was satirical in nature. Do a quick Google search of "edgelords" and you'll see what I was satirizing
-
I know what edge lord means but the hashtag thing being an attempt at humor or satire or whatever just kinda did the opposite. Imagine someone saying that in real life i would think you are an insane person. I would work on the comedic timing and the satire and general because it comes off more as cringe to people who don’t hashtag things on Twitter all the time.
-
It was intentional cringe used to show that the original statement "being liked is not my goal in life" would make me look like an actual edgelord (and thank Gaia I'm not because ew). Not gonna lie, my sense of humor is weird
-
Yea pretty weird
-
Would we? I don't recall a romance arc in FoO, and everyone hated that garbage for bad writing.
