How funny.
Bungie is still using ancient P2P trash multiplayer services, AND charging $70 to play Destiny for another year.
What in the actual fuk?
AND *Stifles laughter* and.... *snickers* people are defending it.
Wanna know what has Dedicated Servers and free DLC?
Battlefield V
Seeya there.
The spoiler below is a reply to another post in here somewhere.
1. Dedicated servers are inherently more secure.
Currently with Destiny's ancient P2P trash your public IP, and the public IP of all of the people in your match are visible to everyone in your match. With that information it's absolute child's play to kick people out of a match, or gather their information for more nefarious means in the future.
For example........ ISPs public IP addresses are divided up by region. So it certainly won't take long for me to figure out not only what country you're in, but what city you're in. From there it's pretty easy to figure out which house is yours.
Seriously, you think your ISP gives a crap about protecting your information LOL!
2. Dedicated Servers are more stable
This everyone should know, but uhhh.... if 1 person has a high ping on a dedicated server, it's really only their experience that sucks. Developers like DICE have gone to great lengths to tweak things like hit registrations, latency compensation, etc.. specifically to punish high pingers the most. With the philosophy that other gamers shouldn't have to suffer for someone else's shit internet.
3.Dedicated Servers drastically reduce outlier scenarios.
Things like getting shot around corners, or dying to invisible bullets are not completely eliminated, but drastically reduced. DRASTICALLY.
Plus what matters the most in dedicated server layouts is your ping to the server, that's how fast your hits will register on every opponent you encounter period, because the SERVER DECIDES IF YOU HIT THEM. Not true in Destiny. You hit registration time can vary from enemy to enemy in the same match.

People knowing my ip would be really annoying if I didn't have a dynamic ip. Despite Destiny 2 has dedicated servers on top of P2P… I don't know why people keep asking to remove P2P. That would just make lag switching a better option for everyone. As demonstrated by any game which has attempted that approach in the past. It makes it way easier for cheater to cheat. (Of course if all you know about dedicated servers is the marketing bullshit you won't believe me until you look at it for yourself…)

but then you have to play the shit game that is battlefield. Which btw, was so awful that they literally GAVE IT AWAY ON MICROSOFT GOLD 4 TIMES NOW!

If you’re only interested in PvP bungie isn’t charging you anything. All the quality of life changes as well as multiplayer maps will be free to play just as the current dlc multiplayer maps are free to play for non dlc owners now. I’m not saying they’re perfect or haven’t made some mistakes just the your payment criticism doesn’t apply if you’re solely talking about PvP. I do agree that dedicated servers would be a great addition to the game as they could mean larger maps for pve and other people bad connection not degrading you’re experience in PvP. Another thing they could possibly help with might be testing weapon changes in crucible labs. I know it’s not possible in the game now but if they had separate servers for that it might make it possible so that could be something for them to think about.
-
I'm interested in all of Destiny, but they refuse to offer basic services while charging premium prices for DLC, in addition to their Micro Transactions which really have no place in a full price AAA game with paid dlc.
-
Other than dedicated servers, witch one could argue aren’t a basic service just yet, what else do you believe they refuse to offer? I can see how dedicated servers would offer a massive value point to a purely PvP player due to the fact that the places they’d make the most impact on player experience if they arrived in the game today would be competitive PvP and trials of the nine. All other impact dedicated servers could have on the game would come in time as it could change the development to allow for larger playable areas and those thing would need development time anyways. If you’re interested in all of destiny like you say you can’t say all the content being offered in the dlc isn’t worth 40 seeing as it will probably have multiple story missions, strikes, adventures, gambit, a new raid, multiple new PvP maps, 2 new destinations and probably things I’m missing just because the game doesn’t have dedicated servers. As for the annual pass being worth 30 we still need to know more about what they offer but I thing a years worth of enjoyment that I’ll get out of them both will be worth the 70 for me personally. Lastly about the micro transactions, I can agree with you that they aren’t great and don’t like them, but I do like that I have a place to get things like emotes and other non game changing items that can just help make me look cooler but I’d never pay irl money for them so I don’t.
what else do you believe they refuse to offer?
A faster patching cycle. There's PvE benefits to dedicated servers as well. The most relevant one being more people in the same space. Imagine a raid with 18 people. 3 teams of 6. Enemies won't rubber-band and teleport around as much. (I know it doesn't happen often, but it could seriously be more rare) Or that really annoying thing that I see happen thousands of times in Destiny 2. Where you hit an enemy dead on with a rocket, watch their health drop to 0, and jump back up to 1/3.... yeah. that thing.
-
I can agree that a faster patching cycle and dedicated set could greatly improve the game. For me personally they aren’t issues that would justify me leaving the game and them not being added isn’t going to prevent me from spending what I feel is a fair amount of money on the expansion and annual pass. While that’s how I feel I fully understand that these are value points for many people like you and bungie should strive to implement them moving forward to help retain players like you and maybe attract new players. In order to implement them to with the most potential I think I new engine is probably needed and hopefully bungie is looking into that for d3. Dedicated servers could be brought into d2 but the development benefits from having them wouldn’t be felt until a new game launch I’d think. As for some of your ideas of the benefits of dedicated servers, I don’t experience any of the issues you mentioned regularly enough for them to be a real issue for me and an 18 man raid might sound fun but I don’t think it would be that great to be honest. It’s already hard enough for most people to find 5 others to play with let alone 17. Also, consoles probably couldn’t handle anything like that until maybe the next gen consoles come out and they’d then have to make the game solely for those newest consoles and pc.

Edited by RavenousLD3341: 6/14/2018 1:29:41 AMFinaly Fantasy XIV had a 32 person raid... i think..., and it was awesome, and.... I played THAT on PS3. So yeah, PS4 can handle it, not to mention that Battlefield 1 is 32 v 32. The heavy lifting is done by the server, not the console. My main issue with paying $70 for more Destiny is that I feel pretty burned by my original $100. 2/3 of the new loot in CoO was put behind eververse, story missions as strikes, and an extremely short story, and all of this repeated itself in Warmind. The best part of CoO was the return of Heroic Strikes. The best part of warmind was the exotic changes. With that I would say that Warmind actually caused a NEW problem, that really really hard stop at 345 light, when progression during D1 Age of Triumph was well tuned. Warmind really needed something to do between 345 and 360 besides raid and nightfall. With that being said, I respect your position. If you're happy buy it, but i can't. Destiny is just getting too expensive, and I don't feel like I'm getting my money's worth.

You’re probably right about your points and with the examples you mentioned I can see how it could potentially be done but I still just don’t think it works in the world of destiny and wouldn’t land as well in a FPS setting compared to a true MMORPG like final fantasy. I also think finding that amount of players who are good enough to complete a raid activity like that would be a challenge for almost everyone. If something of a massive scope like that were to ever be brought to destiny I’d like to see it as a series of final battle type scenarios to end major plot points in the story. I honestly never paid much attention to the things in eververse cause they don’t matter when it comes to gameplay and to me they’re just cool cosmetic items I get when I turn in a bright engram. I can see how people could be unhappy with the amount of items in eververse and adding an intentional grind to get even only the exotic item could add a lot to the game. The stories were short and unfulfilling and I think it feels that way because in the universe of destiny we’re doing unbelievable things and making incomprehensibly powerful allies but the stories and cutscenes just don’t make you feel that way at all. The infinite forest was also a huge missed opportunity for CoO. Even with all the things that could have been better the grind for the forge weapons was good and took some time to complete and eow is a fun piece of content as well it just lacked rewards. If bungie wants to keep the current raid system of one full raid and two lairs a year I’m ok with that but each activity should have its own full weapon set and not one set spread over 3 activities. Warminds story had the same issues I brought up before but as for the other content added it was well worth it to me as I’m still grinding for multiple item and haven’t gotten to max level with my desired weapons yet. I don’t feel constrained too much by the leveling system because after 370 you’re strong enough to do anything you want to do so it’s ok if the rest of it takes some time to achieve. The only reason age of triumph leveled people so fast and had multiple activities get you to max level was because they wanted it to be something everyone could easily achieve before moving to d2. It taking some more time to reach max level now in the beginning/middle of this game life cycle is ok for me as long as every player who’s serious about reaching max level and doing end game activities is able to before the new content drops and we are. I also value and respect your opinions and understand exactly why to you the new content might not be worth the money. Hopefully through respectful back and forth like this bungie will be able to listen and implement changes that will draw you and other like minded players back to the game and to a point where you’re satisfied with it as well. Also, thank you again for remaining respectful throughout the entirety of our conversation, I see too many people not doing so and many good and valid points might not be presented well due to anger and frustration. That last point is clearly not only for you but anyone else who might be reading and paying attention.

Agreed :D Always nice to have a nice conversation on the Destiny forums. Seeya around
