Our Diary sector is a gouge bubble. Let American Dairy come in and slap them in the face alittle. Reduce our prices. Cant afford to prop up Jimmy Bob's farm anymore or protect our gouge-masters against the evils of American dairy.

Edit: Trump wants to bring in money from Canada and help support American Farmers and unload milk. Canada wants to protect business owners and continue expensive trends.

The link you provide seems to disprove your claim that canadian consumers pay more for milk than US consumers. Sarcasm? (BTW, supply management means we don't have to subsidize our dairy farms. That's a hidden cost we canadians don't have to pay)
-
I wanted to be fair. Its also outdated by 7 years. Here's the 2017 info: According to AC Nielson data, the price of 1 L of milk in Canada is $1.51 and in the USA it’s $1.63 (2017) Its gone up. US raw milk should be treated differently though, it has additives we dont have in ours. According to that same biased Canadian diary source link. I would prefer to keep both separate if that was the case. Processed dairy products for trade on the other-hand should be fair game.

Fair enough BT. I learned a lot about the supply management we have in place in Canada, and I must admit I thought it was restrictive and antiquated too. Then I got to learn how the dairy farmers in free markets are doing. And they're doing badly. And it's not because Canada chose to cut-off its market from the rest of the world. If we threw away supply management and opened up this market to free trade, we wouldn't be really helping them. We would just be joining in that misery. And to boot, we're not even paying more for our milk.

Cool graph. How does that make Canadian dairy cost less at the store exactly?

Edited by CAMMCAM: 6/12/2018 1:12:36 PMCool cherry picking AND straw man. The OP is from Europe and Canada is not the only one that Trump is threatening. Their OVERALL trade rate is still lower than the US’s so, exactly what the -blam!- does their milk have to do with their trade rate?
-
Didnt mention national trade rates. You did. Our Dairy tariff was mentioned as a point of discussion around at the summit. Our political and media class are rallying behind it. Stupidly. Telling us how President Trump making dairy more affordable, is bad for us. I'm Canadian. Trump isnt threatening me. He's threatening Canadian milk barons, forcing them to lower prices via capitalism. (oooo scary, my poor wallet!) The government protecting price-gouging, is moronic. Why would you give me a national trade rate graph?
-
Because literally no one gives a shit about milk except you and trump.

Too bad it's more than about dairy products. But it's understandable since fragile minds cant comprehend what's going on here
