• All food we eat is GMO. Whether it’s genetically modified through selective breeding over hundred of years or it’s genetically modified through modern techniques it’s still the same thing. For example look at tomato’s - the ancient wild varieties look nothing like the modern varieties. That’s genetic modification, we just don’t call it that.

    • To be afraid of Genetic modification is foolish as every major form of produce has undergone manipulation being through genetic alteration or selective breeding. To fear excessive modification is reasonable enough however a line must be drawn.

Rather eat the plants i grow in my garden. I know where the seeds come from. The gmo shit is scary. Changing a plants dna basically to show certain traits and be resistant to diseases and so forth. Food taste different now. I remember eating foods grown in my grandfather's garden tasting better than what is grown today.

      • Genetically modified food can be really good and beneficial for people when done with actual nutrition in mind.

      • They tend to be healthier or have no difference. Normally it's for taste or some extra vitamins and nutrients. Bill Nye talks about it a bit in this video (it's one of the WIRED magazine science question videos) at about 7:05 and 7:55.

      • GMO means genetically modified organism. there is no appreciable diffrence between a GMO and its natural counterpart unless it was modified in a way to make it taste diffrent or have diffrent neutrantantitive properties- and this is the only way it could be made "unhealthy"
i don't know if that's a real word
what you should be worried about is corn syrup, insecticides, and preservatives.

I try my best not to eat non GMO foods. I have a garden with a lot of vegitables and mostly get my food from there. The hardest to find are the non GMO fruits.

            • I’m entirely fine with them. One example is a variant of rice that has beta-carotene in it, and is popular in Vietnam (I think), because deficiencies in the nutrient are rampant, and the enhanced rice helps people get the nutrition they need.

              • I feel like they could be very helpful but I don't trust the people that make them to not add certain chemicals or what not as a way to cut corners.

                • I could honestly care less. Lots of people get enraged when they find out a food is GMO and I just think “oh it’s gmo....still tastes pretty good”
