It's already a paid game. You can't go back once it's already been released.
D3 is a different story though. But knowing bungie it'll be a paid game with free to play systems like in d2. In other words more Microtransactions either way.

That’s not true. There’s been a few games that went f2p after their original launch. The 4v1 hunters vs monsters just did that last year ish. Fortnite Pve is on the same track to go F2p as well, I paid 40 dollars for it in October
