Sonic CD's Japanese OST is my favorite. Every stage has 4 songs, which may share a leitmotif, but are all completely different.
Rumor is that Michael Jackson worked on the soundtrack, but asked not to he credited for his work.

Metallic madness bad future is better imo. Nothing can beat metal sonic in the background trash talking and belittling you.
