Well the classic is cheaper (by like $15) but it has no tactical rails. The modern one has 4 tactical rails and improved range.

Get the modern one. 4 tac rails and increased range for an extra $15 is a steal. I used to play airsoft on the weekends. Nothing professional of course, but it was a lot of fun. I have an automatic 380 fps M4 with a red-dot sight.

Nice, I'm just starting. I've actually never been shot. Or been in a match. Should I get any protection besides eye and face?

Definitely eyes and face. I just wore a shirt and blue jeans to my matches, but be careful in close quarters. I still have the scar from where a friend of mine ran around the corner and point-blanked me in the arm with a 400 fps spring PT92.
