They already have a rotating stock each week. The LAST thing Bungie needs to be putting their time into is bloody micro-transactions. They should focus on actually making their game worthy of that 90$ price tag before they turn their attention to attempting to squeeze change out of people. What they SHOULD do is scrap the eververse and lock exotic ships, sparrows and emotes behind interesting challenges and activities. As well as remove all those completely and utterly useless blue mods from their bright engram pool.

  • On the business, Eververse is lacking. With a few little tweaks it could be so much better. Getting rid of the Eververse is never going to happen. Maintaining and updating video games cost money and funds need to be generate over time to cover the cost.

  • In a strictly slimy business sense, yeah, it could be doing better. But the failure of the Destiny eververse is an extremely good thing. Almost no AAA title actually needs Micro transactions to survive, I have no idea why people believe this to be true. Usually, unless a game is free to play, micro-transactions are just there to generate as much extra money as possible. The price of the base game as well as the price of DLC are more than enough to sustain a videogame. Just take a look at all the games on 360 and Xbox one who have had Dedicated Servers and updates going for years running off the money produced from the base sale and 3-4 DLC. Don't be fooled, Games like Destiny, CoD, Battlefield aren't providing anything they cannot afford without the support of Micro transactions. They have their time and cost all sorted out before the game is already finished. Again, any form of micro transactions do nothing but generate extra money, they are not needed for anything but that. But lets say that in some weird alternate reality videogames somehow actually don't make enough money to support themselves, and companies still made them for some reason. What could they do to lighten the load other than cut content and attempt to sell it separately? Just look to CD Projekt Red and the Witcher 3. Sure, its a completely different type of game, but how did they make so much money? It comes down to one simple thing AAA studios don't understand. They didn't spend millions of dollars on a highly cinematic, hype train marketing campaign. Look at Destiny, all the super cinematic trailers, dumb commercials, endorsements millions of completely unnecessary dollars spent on things that don't even properly represent the game. The main trailer for Witcher 3 was perfect, they showed the actual game, used in game music and paid some lady to speak over it. Just by using things they already had on hand they managed to not only properly represent the entire game in a straightforward way, but they saved millions of dollars that was put into making and maintaining the actual game. I do not mean to sound condescending when I say this, but please, go look at the statistics of games being made today. You are being lied to, they in no way NEED micro transactions to stay alive. Just go look at the production cost compared to the marketing cost. Then look at sales revenue. You'll see that even with massive bloated marketing budgets they still generate enough day one sales to do it all again 2 times over. Then do the same thing for the DLCs you'll see it again. Some people would rather pay a few bucks to get a skin than grind for days, people got lives, I get that. But don't let these companies lie to you and convince you that they need loot boxes, etc, to stay afloat. Its just a big myth they created to justify cutting up their product to sell separately, and you can figure that out after spending like 20 minutes on the internet.

  • Maybe 10 years ago, but with games growing in size and the high demand of content. While loot boxes is reason why microtransactions is frown upon. Doesnt mean they cant coexist in the industry. Games are lasting longer than normal, while that seem as good thing. Things come at cost that not always are bought up during a budget meeting. Look at gta 5 online, a billion alone in microtransactions over 5 years easily. We deal with loot boxes every day, like how your wife is going to feel like today or how are your kids going act in walmarts. How the holiday is with family going to turn out. But when it happens in a video game its evil. Video games are suppose to fun, but that fun now comes with outside cost of the base game. Im okay with, but why cant we work togather to make it better.

  • Games aren't growing in size though. They're continuously getting smaller and smaller. And this isn't ten years ago, this is this year. just look it up. All I'm saying is yeah, they make tonnes of money from people who don't mind forking out extra cash to get things rather than actually playing the game they bought. I can understand why they're kept around, they're a cash cow. But they are in no way needed. And they do hurt players like me. I personally don't believe in buying them unless I'm playing a free to play game. But I'm not going to rage on you for taking part in the practice, its your choice. (I understand I'm arguing with you, but I'm not being hostile.... I hope) I would be a lot more comfortable with them if micro transactions actually added additional content rather than cutting it out to sell. I'm going to use Battlefield 4 and Battlefield 1 as an example here. In battlefield 4 there was a large selection of skins for each in game weapon, you earned these skins by doing things in game. They provided extra challenges to the game, I had things to work towards even after unlocking all the weapons. Trying to get vehicle kills a certain way, etc.. Whereas in Battlefield 1 they completely stripped that from the game. If I want a skin I can either grind for a crate and hope I get the one I want, or I can just buy some crates to increase my chance. Its lazy and took a big part of the games re-playability away. I think they can kinda co exist, like they way they work in R6 Siege. There you can unlock everything in game pretty easily with the in game currency, theres no cheap RNG factor. You want something, you grind and unlock it. But if you feel like supporting the community and just paying for it, you can. They did it correctly, the implemented their way of making extra money without making players feel like its being forced in any way at all. As with GTA, yes it makes a lot of money. But it wasn't absolutely needed to keep the game going. It brings free DLC, but its all DLC with the sole motivation of keeping people buying shark cards. The way GTA harasses you to buy money is ridiculous with the texts, radio ads, loading screen ads, emails, community ads. Idk about you, everyone is different. But I don't like paying 80$ for a product only for the product to constantly dog me about spending more money when I try to play it. (That was a really, really bad analogy for loot boxes by the way. If my kid is acting up in Walmart I can just make him sit in the car. No one is there telling me that I need to deal with him acting up unless I pay 4.99 for the "Quiet child pack")

  • Hostile, quiet the opposite really. You are worth the time to debate with. Everything in Destiny 2 feels more like an incomplete project. If Eververse was more like R6 siege or even the market from warframe. See i dont have a problem with loot boxes, because iv always gotten something worth while out of them. Never ever got trash, my rng luck is really good.
