When we fougth him, he absorbed a lot of Light by force from the Traveler. When we killed him, that Light probably gave him a sort of "Sunsinger" moment. That's all...

If you mean that we lose our power, that is because he imprisoned the Traveler with a sort of Suppression Cage that block the Light irradiance from the Traveler. If you mean that we can't self-res when we fight him, that is only game mechanics...
