Trump won the election by polarizing the nation, so is it not a surprise that we're as divided as we were during the Civil War era? Plus, Hillary wasn't exactly getting good press at the time and Trump represented a change in pace from the career politicians that usually inhabit the White House. (not sure that big business is any better but whatever) However, it's not like most of this wasn't available info at the beginning. No, we couldn't have foreseen Trump doing everything possible to escalate tensions with NK, but pretty much everything else was to be expected. He's a loose cannon -- he gave plenty of indication of that before assuming the presidency. He's a loud-mouthed bigot -- once again, not something he wasn't showing before. His failure in diplomatic affairs correspond well to his pre-presidency campaign behavior. Shouldn't surprise you that the United States was one of the only nations to vote against the death penalty for homosexuality, or that Trump pulled out of the Paris Agreement for no reason. Shouldn't be a surprise that Trump is reversing all Obama-era policies for no other reason than the fact that they have lib cooties on them. I mean, hell, Caitlyn Jenner got swooned by this guy and is watching the man she voted in steadily working to take away her human rights. Here's hoping that America isn't stupid enough to make the same mistake twice. I'd hope for him to get impeached when the Democrats likely take over congress in the midterms (ah, I love partisanship), but I absolutely don't want Mike Pence to take control. How screwed we are.

  • Explain. I mean... we're segregating ourselves for crying out loud. Groups hate groups. There's so many violent divides. Right and left, black and white, gay and straight, religious and just about anything.

  • We're not even a year into the presidency and Trump's DoJ has overwhelmingly shown thus far that it has little to no care for the LGBT community. Nothing big has happened yet, no, but we're seeing anti-discriminatory laws being repealed and transgender people being barred from military service. It's not going to get any better from there.

  • and a community that comprises less than 10% of the country is a good metric to evaluate a presidency?

  • Considering Trump promised to fight for and protect them, I'd say it's very significant. It's not like he's just sat still on this. Promises broken by lack of action are common in politics, and it wouldn't be such a travesty if that's all Trump did. But he's done just about everything possible to actively contradict that promise, from hiring extremely homophobic people to several key positions (including DoJ head Jeff Sessions) to speaking at far-right hate groups to barring transgenders from service and doing anything and everything to reverse anti-discriminatory policies in place. I mean, if his campaign promise was to fight against gays and transgenders, he'd be fulfilling it with flying colors. (then again, idiots like Caitlyn Jenner wouldn't have voted for him) I bring this up because it's appalling. There's other aspects to his presidency that deserve a mention. His overwhelmingly unprofessional behavior, his little childish piss-fest with NK and his smug apathy to start flinging nukes, and his highly abrasive rhetoric that serves to rub sandpaper on the many wounds this country has. To his credit, the economic sector is doing fairly well (which was to be expected considering the fact that we have a CEO as president), but in every other affair, social or diplomatic; domestic or foreign, he has been a catastrophic failure.

  • Is that an argument that they don't deserve rights?

  • no, it is an argument that they are not the most effective metric

Considering all people have a right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, I'd say yes.

Transgenders were “unbarred” for less than a year. Let’s not act like trump is undoing things that have been in place for decades. You have a skewed vision of what America is. Maybe go outside and talk to your neighbor and find out how “polarized” we really are.

  • Because small talk is a good metric to evaluate national unity. What do you want to bet that if I go door to door with my political views that I'm going to get in a heated discussion, if not an outright fight with at least a couple people along the way? And just because transgendered were barred for decades doesn't mean things need to stay that way. There's a concept called progress, and Trump is making every effort to revert it.

People have always and will always have different opinions on pretty much any subject. Why do you think obama waited until the end of his second term to allow transgenders to serve? Why not when he repealed DADT why wait 5 more years?
