...wash my hands, and see myself out.
No need to reply. I assure you, I’m quite the honest person, and I’ve no intention of sticking around to read replies.
I left my, mostly, tactful feedback, for whatever good it will do. I am proud of that. Those of you who are passionate about quality, I feel for you too, and thank you. Not many care deep enough, and even fewer than that ever recognize, let alone respect, the time some of us take to really look deeper, beyond the flashy graphics and dazzling colors, to root out the weeds which choke the garden of video game Edens.
Bungie, this is for you, and only you. Not for the fans and not for the players. They’ve done nothing wrong. They are here to simply have fun and, like them, I was too. I saw great potential in your capabilities. And this is not to say you are incapable of still being and doing great.
Given the current state of the game, it’s embarrassing. Shameful, even.
The fact that many players, to my surprise, argue to defend this game, yet seem to conveniently forget(?) the fact that Y3 Destiny had better incentives for players (read as: replay-ability), blows my mind. There can be only one reason. Your target audience was reached. Very young people. Vanilla Destiny had more diversity in loot...and that’s a fact; baked-in perks means kills the pursuit and need to keep going.
Review
(Sure to sting some feelings)
Gloves are off!
If you’re a casual player looking to spend time experiencing Bungie’s first class shooting mechanics, you’re in for a treat. If you’re a returning player who was looking for more, there is trouble up ahead my friend...
Having put a great many hours into the game, experienced all it offers, it becomes clear, and fast, that the game turns boring. Loot stops scaling at around the 260 power (previously known as ‘Light’) mark and the only way to power-up higher is the completing of weekly activities, which can be done once per character, per week. Once done, and once you find yourself at the 265/ 270 mark, infusing exotic weapons and/ or getting exotic engrams are your only way to scale up. It’s either mindless grinding for the same loot, of which has baked-in perks (more on that latter) or make new characters to take advantage of being able to do multiple weekly milestones.
While the latter sounds appealing, it’s actually detrimental to anyone looking for long term replay ability, because there is no incentive to grind out the endgame activities beyond getting what you get, the first time. With the lost benefit of raid weapons and gear not having raid perks nor even random perks on normal loot, the incentives to keep playing is lost. I reached 300 power very fast using the multiple character method and once there, activities that granted rewards useful to me, diminished exponentially.
This is a huge step backwards in a looter game, and that’s the bottom line in this genre: getting better loot. Everyone has the same loot now. There is no more White Whale to pursue anymore.
I’ve digressed though and believe that what I am about to say, should be the only thing that needs to be said. More than 90% of the people who have been leaving reviews here for this game, have been comparing it to the vanilla release of Destiny.
And this, critics, is not only a mistake, but it shows just how out of touch you are, and have been, with the many progressive changes made to Destiny, up to this point. There were a lot of extra incentives added to Destiny. Post Rise of Iron expansion saw the game in a truly fun position.
Gone, entirely, are all the changes that year 3 Destiny had that helped mold the vanilla experience, over time, into a wonderfully rewarding experience.
Sequels should retain aspects of their predecessors, for continuity sake. Movie producers and novelists alike know and understand this. However, and I cannot emphasize this enough, more must be built upon that foundation. More. Not less.
Destiny 2 is three years behind Destiny: Rise of Iron. Quite literally, we veteran players who stuck with Destiny from day one launch, we are playing that same bland vanilla Destiny experience of 2014, all over again.
Critics praising Bungie for the story and fancy graphics, need to stop. Just stop. Those are characteristics that are, in this era of video gaming, come to be expected of any first rate developing studio. Expected! You don’t praise an adult for tying their shoes every day, do you? Unless you have stuck with Destiny since initial launch and up until now, your critiques, opinions even, are entirely moot.
Do not buy this game. Maybe, in two years time from now, the game will offer everything that Y3 (Year 3) Destiny does. But, really, who wants a repeat of 2014 again?
Hardcore fans are abandoning the sinking boat. Have no illusions, the game grows stale and the casuals, whom this game was clearly targeted at, will leave when they do and will grow bored, fast. Anyone left standing who was a hardcore fan, if any at all by then, will be left wondering if the whole experience was a nightmare and they can finally wake up.
Stop spreading false information, critics. You cannot compare this game to vanilla Destiny. In doing so, you are clearly disclosing your lack of intelligence and acknowledgment of the fact that Destiny has, since launch, never seen many expansions and core mechanic changes that have refined the end user experience. Stop. Your. Madness.
Search Youtube for a video by “Skill Up.” It’s an hour long review of Destiny 2 and one of which tens of thousands of fans are in agreement with. You owe it to yourself, if you value not only your money, but the integrity of the video game industry.
The game is an insult to creativity, ingenuity, inspiration, and takes no risks. Nothing to see here. Nothing you will truly miss. Move along.
If you’re looking to critic reviews, or listen to people that tell you to ignore user reviews, ask yourself this:
Would you rather take the word of someone who is not knowledgable, in that they are comparing an outdated version of Destiny, minus all the software updates and changes for the past three years, to Destiny 2? Or the word of someone who has put in thousands of hours into Destiny, up to now, and many in Destiny 2? Someone who has skipped three years or someone who has seen them all?

2 RepliesI love how your whining about grinding from 260 with exotics just because you don't know how to level up to 280+ without grinding anything
-
So all my replies are getting deleted even though they conform to the rules established here. I totally agree with the author although I'd like to add something. I am a veteran gamer (since 95) and played pretty much every major game released so far on multiple consoles. Destiny as a whole has never been good. It was always a mediocre shooter and even more mediocre action rpg with a lack of character and identity. I never understood the hype. I played the second one because my wife is a fan but now that I have my platinum trophy I'm glad I can find an excuse to play other games. This is a shame.

7 RepliesAs a player with equivalent or possibly greater credentials, I agree and disagree with you. This game is definitely geared towards casuals, but that's not to say veterans and hardcore players don't have things to do. MANY of the improvements we saw in 3 years of D1 have stuck around. There have been many other improvements that are unique to D2. There are also many things missing and other issues. That's what happens WHEN A BRAND NEW GAME RELEASES AND HASNT HAD ANY MAJOR UPDATES YET. Do you realize how much better of an experience vanilla D2 is compared to vanilla D1? Your entire argument is based on the improvements D1 had over it's lifespan. Well now imagine how much D2 can (and will) improve. Changes and tweaks are inevitable. This post offers NOTHING in terms of constructive value.

12 RepliesWhile you may not agree, the critics are correct in comparing this game to base destiny 1. I say that cause just like that game, this is the foundation/base that bungie will build on for the complete destiny 2 experience. The disconnect between them and gamers thinking like you is that while they are comparing it to the base game, yall are comparing it to a game 3 years old & 4 dlcs deep. Of course d2 not gonna compare to that at this point. But if you compare it to the base destiny 1, it beats it. It has more modes in crucible (6 to 4), more pve content, is technically better, etc. Yet, that's not good enough cause yall want all the content of fully loaded destiny 1 and more in the base game of destiny 2, which is unrealistic and full of entitlement that you shouldnt have. Is destiny 2 perfect? No, but it's far better than base destiny 1. And if how bungie added on to that game is any indication, destiny 2 will be amazing when they start building on the foundation they've laid.

Usually when someone posts something with the title, "I'll just leave this here," the body of the post is something witty and brief. Your post is neither of those things. 0/10 would not click bait again.

5 RepliesYear 3, RoI era of Destiny was my absolute favorite. All those raids, strikes, planets, events, it was amazing. It brought back the old days of Vanilla yet made it feel fresh, better even. THAT'S how D2 should have launched, but it didn't. I've been a long time Destiny fan, and I loved making friends with people new to the game, getting to show them this awesome world Bungie created, that WE created. I feel like D2 is going down the same exact path, and it's not a good way to go. Year 3 was the way we wanted Destiny to be. A sequel comes out, and we've taken three steps back. I have hope in Bungie, but this makes me kind of disappointed. I still like D2, but it's a shadow of what it could have been.

5 RepliesI agree with a lot of this. It truly is confusing of to the reasons why we have received such a watered down game for a "sequel/reboot" No heroic versions of strikes No mission replay or difficulty setting No "endgame" adventures No PvP mode selection An already poor PvP meta Just to name a few things that could have easily been added or changed and probably should have on the PvE side to stretch out getting loot of higher rarities and making the grind feel rewarding. I also believe that the faction rally is a huge missed opportunity to really wow the community. It would've been amazing to get 1 strike per faction and maybe a few adventures, really give us a backround on each faction while flushing out their stories, making us more vested in them. How did each faction handle the events during Ghuals attack? How are they fighting back now after getting their light back? What is it that they each stand for or do for the city? This is me being picky but will also add it is a shame to see the loot in this game is mostly D1 reskins and factions have reskins of said reskins..? Feels lazy to me honestly. There's always players who consume content faster than others but just because you haven't spent 200+ hours in a game doesn't make you a better person than someone who has, you don't know that person's life and like most of you say it's a game so why are you so mad that they're unhappy? I see so much disrespect in these comments and it truly blows my mind how another human being can be so outright rude. I've strayed from my main thought though, sorry. Voicing a concern shouldn't be belittled instead it should be discussed and resolved, if a good amount of the player base is saying there is a lack of content or lack of options in said content then the issue lies there, not in the players who are at the forefront. I lead a clan so I deal with many different player types but can say I hear my guys who play a few hours per week saying some of the same stuff my daily players say. If that does raise a red flag I don't know what does. If you ask me? I think Destiny 2 should've been Destiny 2 and not Destiny 1s shadow, Most of where we were at the end of 1 should've been the start point for 2.
-
I agree with you. I keep feeling with everything that we went through the last 3yrs to get to a decent shooter at the end of Destiny 1, we're right back to where we were in 2014. A game where we'll have to wait another 3yrs to actually get the game we deserve. Just in time for Destiny 3 when it won't make any difference at all for our hours put in.

I love a lot about Destiny 2. I'm baffled by a lot of Destiny 2 as well. I can't disagree with most of what you wrote, though. It's a shame how barren the end-game content is at the moment. I'm left feeling not totally unlike I was with Destiny 1 end-game that first year. Hopefully it doesn't take 1-2 years to catch-up with Destiny 1 years 2 and 3.

So... I was prepared to leave another 'bye Felicia' or 'why does everyone feel the need to write a goodbye letter?' post... but... There is actually a lot of constructive feedback on this post. OP I know you are probably not reading this, but I recommend you post this on reddit instead. Bungie reps have said they don't read the forums but they DO read reddit posts that get upvoted.

D1 vet here and yes i regret ever buying this game d2 i mean everything this man said above OP is Right d2 is for casuals the hardcore destiny gamers that keus d1 Alive Until d2 arrived has all got the big Middle finger from bungie.. thanks bungie for doing this now no expansion pass for me or any other game make!

A freaking men. BUNGIE STOP FAILING US

I totally agree with everything! Destiny 2 is a perfectly wrapped shame package which does not even come close to D1. Farming for better gear to increase power(light) levels is absolutely useless. The only way to level are the weekly milestones and raids. But one does not even need to run raids if he or she is in a clan just let the other clan members run them and you just pick up the clan reward with lvl 10 and infuse them and you still will over time have the best raid gear...without running a raid the same goes for nightfall strikes etc.! Legendary and exotic items are being thrown after you like candy it's just crazy. Infusing gear does not require anymore materials just glimmer. In D1 if you had a legendary drop you where lucky and an exo drop it was time to rejoice and you could count on it that it was good gear...but now in D2! SHAME ON YOU BUNGIE

1 ReplyEdited by FromNowOn: 9/28/2017 5:04:08 PMPretty crazy scrolling through these replies. Sure, Destiny 2 had a massive enthused playerbase at launch.... But I wonder where that number sits now, and what the general mood and opinion is. Based on this thread and most of these forums right now? It's pretty bleak.

2 RepliesI know I know. There's no more grinding day in and out for that weapon that makes you supreme elitist anymore. Quite a shame really.

This is a huge step backwards in a looter game, and that’s the bottom line in this genre: getting better loot. Everyone has the same loot now. There is no more White Whale to pursue anymore.
I disagree, it is a step forward. If you look at the end game of D1, which you say it was a step back from, EVERYONE was wearing raid gear. This new system allows for diversity in gear and shaders, and for you to look as you want, not as everyone else. Comparable to transmog in WoW.

Edited by Dayknight: 9/28/2017 5:11:26 PMI respect the way you have presented your points, but I Disagree. Is D2 perfect no, it has its flaws. Is bungie going to add more stuff yes. I for one don't miss the pointless grind for unique armor. I don't miss trying to get that one god roll weapon. Im enjoying the game as it is now, and i am sorry some of the hardcore fan base feels as though they have been abandoned, but bot every hardcore player feels like that.

Didn't even reach the level cap. What a filthy casual scrubbag noob. Git gud.

2 RepliesEdited by Xenomorph: 9/27/2017 11:34:42 PMIt's.... A video game. Entertainment... Light entertainment at that. There's this thing... I think it's called "choice"? Others refer to it as "free will". See, I'm an older gamer. I'm a console pleb, and for the most part a "filthy scrub casual". Sure, I logged over 2,200hrs in D1, but to the "hardcore" among us, my time probably doesn't even rate. I'm of the opinion that you should be rewarded for time spent in a game with rewards within said game... But... There's also the reward of enjoyment. A reward purposely ignored by a lot of people. I feel D2 isn't the ballache of a grind that D1 was by some measure, but there is one aspect of it that is chapping my arse right now, and that is Raid rewards. Sure, the D2 vanilla campaign is "short", the allure of "Adventures" is not high, and once 290+, a lot of content is irrelevant. The timed events (Nightfall's, Strike's) are funnily enough ok with me, although it would be nice to get a break every now and again. But the raid rewards, and the vendor token RNG is very disappointing. This is coming from someone with about 468 D1 raid completions all up. If something's not broken, why try and fix it? Upon opening a chest you get a non-raid item Legendary engram... A key to a chest you have to screw around to get, and then, you're pretty much given nothing but tokens. Upon finishing the raid, you FINALLY get to use those tokens... To get 4 Inaugural Addresses IN A ROW. Really? You make loot plentiful and varied throughout the entire game in very basic, easy to complete activities... But come the "end game" activity which is the raid, you slam that door shut. Trials gives you more rewards... Maybe apply that system to the raid huh? I mean, you don't even have to go flawless to use those tokens, but the raid??? You're sh!t outta luck there pal. Now, I have completed the raid... Once... But it's the principle of that reward system that has me scratching my head. Can we at least allow people to cash in their tokens without a raid completion... Like Trials? From an old dude.
P.S. Get off my damn lawn!
3 RepliesEdited by UCHENDU: 9/28/2017 4:22:37 PMWhats the issue with catering with casuals? and i ask the same thing of casuals about competitive? D1 destiny was horrid, i think D2 is off at a better start, both crux lacked in depth but id give d1 crux the edge. D2 gets the edge off replayability with better strikes, and things to do after you beat the game. Anyone remember beating the game and the grinding to the required level for the raid? was horrid and crucible kept d1 alive. But now after endgame there are alot more things to do, some choose to play 2 hours some choose to play 14hours.

I do not agree with you, in your entirety. However, I just wanted to say that it was a pleasure reading such a well-written post. Great use of punctuation.

4 RepliesYou're sure full of yourself. I'm tired of "hardcore", "elitist", "veteran", and supposed "pro" players coming on this forum and bitching and moaning about finishing the game in an hour and then bashing Bungie because you really have no life. This game, nor was D1, designed to be played and finished in one sitting. Games, like D2, are mean't to be give you enjoyment over a few years, like D1 did for me, and I'm sure, like D2 will. My buddy and I played the hell out of D1 and we'll do the same here. We're not in for a sweat fest, nor do we want to be told what gear to use because some of you like to complain about being killed by the "popular" gear in the game (cough, Mida, cough). For once I'm asking Bungie to ignore those I classified above and let us "casuals", as they call us, enjoy the game. I'm loving it so far and I don't want to see it changed.
