Nothing that ever lived that will not doe. or something along those lines. Toland said this and SO DID CALUS!! Connection somewhere? This probably supports the theory that Calus had some interaction with the darkness.

 • In some of the Raid weapon lore, Calus muses as to what worm had corrupted Ghaul to betray him. That's paraphrasing, but it sounds like something that Savathun would do, so perhaps the entire Cabal attack was orchestrated by Savathun.

 • Well remember when Calus made a ahamkara bone gauntlet reference and how he stared into the abyss? I don't think he allied with the hive. But he probably has had contact with the dragons or the darkness itself

 • Not Calus, but Ghaul. It probably would have been child's play for Savathun to twist Ghaul's mind into betraying Calus and fiending after the Traveler. I don't think he allied with the Hive either, but Savathun would not need him to be an ally to corrupt him.

 • I respect your opinion, but personally I don't think Savathun has anything to do with Ghual. Don't forget that the consul is the one who trained Ghual into betraying Calus

 • That is something I did not know. Thank you. But why was the Consul so influential to Ghaul? Wasn't Calus the one who saved him and mentored him?

 • No after Calus betrayed the consul and kicked him out. Then the consul found Ghual, an outcast, and raised him to fight and hate Calus

 • Sure, but one look at the consul and you immediately have to ask how he survived his naked exile and why does he look (physically) corrupt by the darkness. No other cabal is that gnarly looking.

 • And he survived in the wilderness by himself, not by the darkness

 • According to which lore?

 • The consul never met the darkness. There evidence though that CALUS met the darkness at some point. And you don't know what cabal normally look like. Or how they look when they are old, young, or the kind of diseases or malformations they can have.

 • Reread my comment. I merely state that you have to ask how and why he is the way he appears in the D2 cutscenes. Darkness would be an easy connection. Calus could very well be tainted, but the lore on the raid weapons/armor doesn't paint him as the typical minion of the darkness we're used to. We just need more scanners/lots tabs/adventure text to flesh out the background.

 • I don't think the darkness corrupted the consul. All he wants is to overthrow Calus and rule with Ghual.

 • Maybe. I would think that if the consul's story line wasn't over, then they wouldn't have left our last scene of him lying on the floor. Actual spoiler
We also don't really have a great idea if the consul or speaker is actually dead. It wasn't clear to me that he killed the speaker and the speaker delivered the voice over for the tower. I'm pretty sure Bungie intended for that scene to show the consul killing the speaker and Ghaul killing the consul, but they weren't very obvious deaths.
• I think the speakers mask Falling off was kinda like to symbolize his death

 • Yeah, but after Eris, the Queen, the Queen's Brother, the Exo Stranger, etc I'm going to need firmer evidence of death without ghost

 • I heard some dialogue in a strike today where ikora mentions how she wonders when Eris will return from her "hive business" and even though bungie said ty were done with the Exo stranger multiple references have been made to her

 • That's probably my favorite strike. Unfortunately we probably won't see much hive content for at least a year.

 • Yes I am sure that Savathun will be the D2 version of the TTK, and the darkness will be D3

 • Probably, but I don't think they're going to be able to wait 2-3 years to address those ships at the end of D2. We've been waiting over 5 years for those.

 • I actually do think that, because those ships were outside of our GALAXY. So it would take a while for them to get here

 • Sure. My guess is something related will happen with the Rasputin dlc in spring. Rasputin will detect them and freak the fudge out. Which will set the stage for the major y2 dlc and I'm guessing they will then get back on the two year rotation they initially planned. They may not physically arrive before 3 though.

 • Rasputin or some AI Warmind does give you a warning about not asking from those more powerful than you, and something else. I can't remember it exactly but it's a side mission on Io. My guess is that Osiris, since he is in the next expansion, maybe we can ask him to be our next speaker? He WAS actually going to be the speakers apprentice till he got exiled. And he is somewhere Alive, I have proof of that. But I think it would be really neat for him to be the next speaker.
