Many fan fictions became good/ popular/ prosperous stories after some tweaking and adjustments to break away from their original base material.

Well, that's what I always did immediately. I wasn't interested I'm expanding on a story that someone else was telling, I wanted to tell my own. Now I am, completely and totally.
