I'm not very familiar with all this so I have a question. Is that Kekistan symbol or made up nation associated with a hate group? I've seen people commenting similar to what you are saying OP, that it's not a hate symbol and this whole thing is overblown, but I'm wondering if there really is a background here that links it to one of those white nationalist groups. I find it odd that Bungie would go out of their way to announce and remove it if there was really no tie at all but stranger things have happened.

Edited by rofl: 9/18/2017 11:36:55 PMKekistan really is just a fake country full of memery and satire of identity politics. Unfortunately, the current majority of identity politics takes place on the left-wing side of things so some (far/alt)right have taken it up without realising the irony, and apparently having right-wing supporters is enough to get a fake country declared a hate group. I feel it should be pointed out the organisation who declared Kekistan a hate group declare many totally innocuous things as such (eg the OK hand signal, or milk. Yes, milk fresh from a teat is apparently racist) and make great profit from doing so - it seems entirely politically/economically driven rather than ethically and as such they have no credibility in my eyes. However many media outlets hold them in high esteem, again for political reasons, so getting on the wrong side of them is somewhat of a threat. Bungie's weekly update fairly reasonably explains it - it used to be just a meme but now it's associated with groups such as ethno-nationalists (although I would contend the fairness of such an association).

Thanks for the info. I probably should've just googled it but I was feeling a little lazy.
