It's great that they built everything over one arching theme but the game is still just a collection of bunch of things just thrown in a bag and shaken up. The story is just like most fights in the game, a shallow mob rush. They did a very poor job of developing the story within the gameplay and delegated it all to the cutscenes. The first mission and the final one through the lost city were the only ones that felt satisfying. The idea of losing our powers and gaining them back was very intriguing to me and they squandered it. So much could have been done when you are limping through the city and it was executed like an extended loading screen. TTK was a better campaign.

  • It makes no tactical sense to stick around in a fully hostile occupied city. You are wounded, have no Light, and no weapon, it would have been a death sentence to stay in their any longer than your "glorified loading screen."

  • "Tactical sense" is irrelevant. Bungie completely glossed over the main element of this story. Metal gear solid 5 did a great job of starting the game out vulnerable and encompassing a struggle. Sneaking through the city with a stealth element, with real interaction and danger would have been a great experience. Hell, even a mission that is fully scripted, in which you will continuously lose fights while you progress, would have been interesting. Instead, the entire experience of losing our light involves: a "glorified loading screen" in which there is zero gameplay, fast forwarding two weeks off screen, fighting two packs of dogs while roaming the mountains for 5 minutes and a 10 minute mission in which you get your light back. Take away the hype and hyperbole pumped out pre release and what you have is an incredibly generic story that is rushed in its execution through lazy mission design and carried by cutscenes.
