Liberals are like Christians from the dark ages at this point xD
Seriously replace liberal with christian, and alt right with witch.
Same belief of self superiority, and crazy ass justifications for violence that go completely against what they supposedly stand for. Both turn heavily on those who go speak out against their actions.
The only difference is the christians got like that out of a fear of their god, I don't understand how liberals got like this.

They got there by the opposite of fear for God: love of the state

True. The far left has grown increasingly cult-like. The more evidence you provide them that their beliefs are unhinged, the more steadfast they become in those beliefs. They don't want a debate. The only truth is the truths provided to them by their priests. Question that truth and be burned at the stake as a heretic. You get people like this on every side of the spectrum, of course, but the left right now particularly attracts this sort of morally righteous, establishment abiding, emotionally driven zealot. I used to consider myself a liberal when the right acted this way. Liberals used to be anti-war and pro-free speech. Now they've changed too much, lost the debate, and have to lie to stay afloat.

Fact, could not have said it better.

I wouldn't take offense to this, or place my own personal worth on his statement. Christianity is not what it once was. Your religion used to be the state, and he's saying that now the state has basically become a religion. It's not far-fetched. You don't want to blame Christianity for a bumpy past, but it was certainly the tool used to achieve many injustices. I don't think it's even worth debating. The same could be said for many religions.
-
Did your pastor in Smalltown USA teach you that? It's a complete abdication of responsibility. Non-Catholics have done more than their fair share of reprehensible shit. Claiming that anyone who committed religious violence in the name of Christ was 'manipulated by the church' or some shit is just false. How many 'witches' were burned, drowned or hanged by Christians? How many died under Protestant rule in Ireland, for example? Even people who have 'read the bible for themselves' do bad things. Who could've guessed? Don't get me wrong, the Church has done (and still does) some really -blam!-ed things, but pretending reformed churches are clean is beyond ignorant.
-
If anything, the Reformation weakened the church thereby allowing every nutjob with an idea to claim divine authority thereby increasing the amount of religiously motivated nutjobs. American Protestants could use some inquisitors.
No
Yup. Learn history correctly or remain ignorant. Your choice.

I take it you're a Christian

Well don't cling too tightly to your safety blanket or you risk ending up like MiffedMaxine
Well don't cling too tightly to your safety blanket or you risk ending up like MiffedMaxine
God is not safe. But He is good. Don't isolate yourself in your little echo chamber box. You're only enslaving yourself.
-
You know religions are perhaps the most famous echo chambers, and the largest.

I suppose, I don't attend meetings or lectures however.

The country came together on 9/11 and stayed together for a short time. Sadly, it probably will never happen again.
