Many factors cause the changes over the years the original story being scrapped, PvP people whining cause a gun killed them, and the toxicity thats has increased rapidly from others. I don't mean people who have valid reasonings and logical explanations i mean those who provide no explanation and compare different games to this an example would be CoD while both games are shooters people seem to forget CoD is NOT open world which brings a slight difference since bungie need to balance the PVE and PVP for no gun to just destroy the environment of either gameplay, while CoD has story, multiplayer, and zombies which means their balance is much easier to do. Another reason which is what bugs me tho is how bungie and ninja mods censor out cheaters. While i understand they don't want witch hunts in the community they need to understand that this community is absolutely done with people ruining the experience of others just for shits and giggles and bypassing others. I mean why do people always talk about blizzard overwatch ban process its because they gave you one warning after that your screwed if caught.
