The voice acting was good!

I've been replaying the vanilla story of D1 on a new character. Our guardian is voiced well and contributed to the progression of the story. I love watching my character come to life and being apart of the world. The guardian interacted with others and talked for themselves. I don't understand why somebody (most likely the suits) decided to have mute characters. While the argument of "but I like imagining my own voice as the guardian" could be presented it is no excuse to remove a story element that was already in place. The removal of a voiced protagonist is only reasonable if a story element is presented to counteract the decision. Bungie has not stated a reason as to why the guardian no longer speaks. Overriding the PC with an obnoxious companion is not way to fit in humor or story into a game with the potential of a voiced character. However bungie has stated a new dialogue system will be in place and that is how we will interact with the world. If this is true and I'd presented in a skyrim-esc fashion then it would be tolerable. However having a voiced character would be nice or at least giving the option to have a voiced character would be preferable to a mute character. Please give me your thoughts on the decision of having a mute PC again. Please keep all discussions civil seeing as this has the potential to be brought to the attention of the dev team/writers and the points of both sides could be taken into account when deciding on future installments.

  • My cousin's first question about the game when he bought the full bundle was "where did my guy's voice go?"

  • Human male characters are best because they are voiced by McCree

They spoke in the original game and then remain quiet for the expansions and sequel. It's fair for players to feel underwhelmed by this. Plus, the whole "silent protagonst" thing just comes off as awkward when something super dramatic happens and our character starts acting like a mime having a stroke.

    • I liked the banter between my Guardian and his Ghost. Made them seem like partners and equals. Now all I have is the Ghost talking for me, usually cheesy jokes. I miss my Guardians' input.

    • To be honest, I just hate silent protagonists in all games. Yes, even Link in Legend of Zelda. I was immensely disappointed that there was no more dialogue for our guardians in Taken King an Rise of Iron. It just made scenes so awkward, especially if you have your helmet off during them. Your ship is destroyed getting onto the Dreadnaught? Nothing say. Lord Salladin names you the newest Iron Lord? Takes the sword and walks away silent. See what I mean?

    • If i imagine my own guardian voice, id probably sound like an angry British gamer. Lots of profanity would be involved.

    • Lot of companies currently learning that voice actors are kinda important to having. Well rounded AAA product. If can at least have a text based "i say this" i will be happy 😁😁

      • That whole "let the player speak for the character" is trash. This isn't some MMO Roleplay server. I can think of one and only one game where I didn't like the VA and it was mostly just the main character. FFX, Tidus sounded like a chump but back then it was cool just to have so much VA in a rpg. Aside from that one game a talking main character hasn't detracted from my gaming experience.

I am largely indifferent on this one. The decision is one matter, how it's implemented however makes all the difference. Homecoming did silent protag rather well. Getting smacked about by a giant space turtle clad in white shiny armor as he delivers the "I'm the bad guy who succeeded, scamp." monologue was on-point. A voiced Guardian wasn't about to add to that atmosphere. If we see enough of that, I accept.

          • They do it so that you imagine yourself as your character, instead of them choosing a voice for them

              • I'm happy we're mute. Instead of "Think you can kill a god?" "Don't think I have a choice." I would have preferred my guardian to say "Easily."
