It really defeats a lot of the purpose of grinding if it'll be easier to get the particular weapons you want. Less reasons to grind a lot means less reasons to play a lot.
I think House of Wolves did it best in D1. There was still grinding for god rolls and the excitement that came with finding an optimal gun, HOWEVER, you could spend resources to re-roll perks to get the setup you want.

I've never been a fan of it. Grinding for that perfect roll was never a fun experience. And I play warframe. There are plenty of ways to make grinding fun and worthwhile. Searching for god rolls isn't it. Bungie can expand the loot pool like blands does. where there are no "bad" guns. and most are up to preference. they can make the power gains slower. to "extend" the time of the grind. Or they can offer things to grind that are not power gains. like cosmetics. God roll grinding was only the main grind because there wasn't enough to do in D1 on top of the fact that it was fairly easy to climb the power ladder. If Bungie creates a good meaningful grind with our power and cosmetics we won't need to crutch on god rolls.

That's what re-rolling was for. Don't want to grind for rolls? Then just find the base model of the gun and go to town with your motes, which everyone has stockpiles of. Boom. The people who want to grind are happy. The people who don't want to grind can choose not to grind as much at the expense of resources.

Rerolling perpetuates the issue. Not solve it. You're still chasing for the perfect roll. just instead of grinding a specific mission for the specific drop you grind resources to get the perfect roll. I'll restate. perfect rolls on guns/armor is not the kind of grind the game needs. Nor was it intended to be the main one. It only ended up that way due to the situations I listed. If D2 has a proper grind for power level and cosmetics the god roll grind is not needed.

Then it's a matter of Bungie striking that balance. Too little grinding and you quickly run out of reasons to play. Too much grinding and the system just feels cheap and unfair for having stingy RNG. God rolls weren't perfect, but if Bungie doesn't do a good job with grinding for the pre-determined roll weapons of D2, we'll be right back at square one.

That is true. That's why i'm hoping the power climb is more linear and incrimental. So it's got a slow but steady feel. And the cosmetics we get will have a proper grind to them and not only by RNG vendors.

No one likes to grind. People grind for results and if there is an easier method to reach those results people will do that. And that's exactly what people did. That's why Re-rolling was removed.

Yeah.
