I really wish Bungie would get rid of the connection bar for D2. Its so not an accurate source of a persons connection

Edited by jroskk: 7/13/2017 9:52:53 PMIt shows how the game server view network packet loss ... lag cheaters love to induce packet drops so they can cheat the game engine. If a client shows up with packet loss then the client should be dropped from PvP due to limitations in the game engine.... There should be a requirement for 100% network connection for PvP in order to support fair gameplay .....

If your bad internet connection gives u an advantage due to the game engine not beeing able to pick up your correct position the you should not be allowed to play crucible! Fair gameplay is more important...

I can assure you that my internet connection is sufficient for generally fair play - I do see some infrequent lag spikes, but I find that I am often the one who dies due to this, I've not seen any advantage given to me on this part. I am certainly not purposely looking to gain or exploit one. My point was more that having a "100% connection" is a ridiculous requirement that is unattainable for the majority of players, especially on a global peer to peer based matchmaking system. Are you saying that only players in North America should be able to play in the Crucible? What if you live on the East Coast, and another player lives on the West Coast? Where do you draw that line? A higher focus on connection-based matchmaking will help, but connections across the Internet will never be perfect, you'll never obtain all players having a "100% connection" to each other.

Edited by jroskk: 7/17/2017 6:52:27 AMYou can have 100% internet connection with your ISP but it doesnt guarantee that you have a perfect connection to p2p players and the Bungie game server. You have two types of players with bad tcp/ip connections. Those that use sw to induce lag and those who just are unlucky and get a bad route. There are other p2p game makers that cope with these problems Bungie has so far not done a good job on it..... There are several ways of dealing with this issue! One solution could be: The game maker could give the user an option to accept or not accept other players with bad connection. Match making would then pick other players based upon your willingness or not to accept players with bad connection. If you are not willing to accept it then you cant play with other players with a rtd higher than 28ms or even maybe less. In general the internet between east and west in US is fairly good its worse if you try st. johns in Canada or Rio in Brazil. Europa could work for some but would be challenging. It is not a easy way and in p2p games it might be impossible to have a fair game but this has to be dealt with in the game engine!
