Should I buy Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion?

I recently got Skyrim Special Edition for my XboxOne and have absolutely loved it! However, I heard that Oblivion is just as good, if not better. Should I get buy Oblivion or not? My only other option is to get Wolfenstein the New Order. Thanks.

Sure, but if you have a PC that meets the recommended requirements (which is a toaster by today's standards), then I'd get that version instead. Because mods.

  • Oblivion on consoles would be pretty rough at this point. It was basically a launch 360 game. It looks extremely rough by today's standards. If you can get past that, its a really great game. Shivering Isles is one of the best dlc/expansions ever.

  • I enjoyed Oblivion better than Skyrim. I feel too much was dumbed down and simplified for the latter. Heads up though that this takes place before the change to the leveling system was made. Look into it a little before you get going. It's possible to gimp your character by the late game. (In the same note it's also possible to use this system to meta level which is kind of cheap)

  • In my opinion it had some the best music next to Morrowind. Would love a soundtrack.

  • Oblivion is Skyrim but not bad.

  • Oblivion is a great game, though there are flaws. If you can get past the outdated graphics, floaty gameplay and horse armour DLC costs though, you should really invest in it.

  •
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_XR6dsy7ATE
The game is pretty true to life it seems, need to play it myself.

  • The graphics are of their time, lots of bugs and glitches, but if you can look past that then it was an amazing game. At that time the graphics to me were amazing. Though it felt more like a computer game than for Xbox 360.

  • Yeah, just be prepared. The game has not aged well and is fairly different than it's sequel.

  • Go nuts with character creation.

When I tried Oblivion for the first time (six years ago?) it felt dated and I couldn't get into it. I didn't play enough to offer you any valid criticism; but the first couple of hours I did play were enough to convince me to put it down. I too enjoyed Skyrim.

Prepare for a more convoluted, flawed levelling system that encourages gaming the system. And NPC graphics that didnt age well at ALL. And Combat that didnt age particularly well either. However Cyrodiil is very pretty, a pleasure to explore (if pretty cookie-cutter C&P after a while), the story is pretty cool, magic system is way WAY better than Skyrims, as are the faction questlines. Especially the Mages Guild. Oh and The Shivering Isles is probably still the most memorable piece of DLC I ever played. It managed to make an already great base game look bland in comparison. It has its ups and down. If you can get past its flaws and warts, its really really fun.

    • Oblivion is one of the greatest ever. However I will say it's harder to play Oblivion after playing Skyrim. The melee combat is much clunkier in Oblivion. But the archery and magic are still good.

    • If you want a great game that will keep you occupied for about 100 hours, then Oblivion is for you.

    • Probably not, Oblivion is better to a select few. Most people would be turned off by how different magic is handled, and how you can't sprint. Also character development is far different from Skyrim, also equipment requires maintenance

    • Do it! You'll have free range to bash everyone that likes skyrim like the TES hipster you were born to be.

    • It's got a much better story than skyrim, but worse in every other way Still a great game, especially considering the price

      • Oblivion is over a decade old. It hasn't aged too well. I think if you are going to get it then it had better be for less than $5.

      • It is extremely flawed. Definitely more flawed than Skyrim. But it's still one of my favorite games ever.

      • I wouldn't bother with Oblivion. It hasn't aged well at all, and it can be easy to mess up leveling your character.

It aged quite badly. I don't think it's worth a playthrough now tbh. Others will disagree.
