Because if they leave them in D1 why would you ever buy D2?

Other than the new story, planets, gear, and revamped crucible? Seem like decent reasons to buy the sequel.

Just me personally but Trials and Iron Banner are not the reason that I am eventually going to get D2 and would not be the reason that I would enjoy D1 even more by having them stay lol

^ This is the main reason. From a business standpoint, it doesn't make sense to fracture your consumer base on 2 products that do the same thing but can't interact with each other so it is better to just push them to the newer product. I'm sure the MLG guys and gals would prefer there to just be one also. If Bungie wants to be nice they will just dump the loot into the standard loot generator and call it a day.
