Clan battles DEFINITELY splits up communities. Seen it. No bueno.
Think about trials. It started out as fun for all. I never played against the same person or team twice in a weekend. They implemented a new matchmaking system and within a few months you were seeing the same names. Sometimes back-to-back. Now... It has become such a chore and highly sought after just for differently colored weapons and a rainbow effect. So few play it that I just saw a friend with a 1.5 KD who did carries in years one and two begging for help.
Now you pit clan vs clan. Same. Exact. Scenario. It'll start out great fun. Everyone's clans will be participating. Then after awhile, only the same dozen clans will remain. Only it's worse than trials. No top tier clan who rightfully earned their place is going to take in a .9 or even 1.2 average into their clan just to "help" them get rewards.
No matter how "average" the rewards would be, people will pay for that crap. The general idea that your PvP skills alone determine your worth right now creates a divide.
I think the idea of clan wide rewards is cool. Clan vs clan may not pan out the way you want. Or maybe I'm just over thinking it and it'll be the best thing ever. Could be, rather.

People play Trials strictly for the rewards. Call of Duty Black Ops 2 had League Play that offered you to play with teams. That worked out perfectly, and I actually made friends with people. Call of Duty Ghosts had Clan vs. Clan with Clan rewards. Believe it or not, it was fun! My clan had rivals and so did other clans. I met a LOT of friends who are great at the game through that playlist. Clan vs. Clan would not be a flop in Destiny 2. People already play each other in Private Matches, so it'd be just that but in Public Matches with no stupid rules. It'd also be a way for us good players and clans to actually find some real competition outside of casual public matches. It gets old and boring playing people who suck. This would be a great way to become even better as an individual and as a clan. You should have no place in playlist if you suck at PvP. Leave it to big boys. Give us who actually care about competition and becoming a better player a place to call home every time we log in. You also need to understand Destiny 2 will practically be an entirely different game. Slower TTK's and charge rates will create a wide skill gap. 4v4 will make it more difficult to actually carry people if that's what people end up doing, and I don't see how people would unless they're in the same clan.

Don't pretend like a slower TTK equates to a different player base. The exact same entitled minded people will be playing Destiny 2 as well. It's a fantasy to act like these carries won't happen. Most streamers have these massive fan clans. I can see it now "clan vs clan carries. Must join my ballcheese licker clan and follow me on twitch!" I used trials as an example. I see the community in action every single day. High skilled players also say that bad players have no place in trials. I saw some guy's mom go flawless and she didn't even know how to look around. Same crap will happen if rewards are exclusive for it. You know there would be exclusive rewards. Times are different. Everyone's examples (including mine) are old ones. Millennials plague the community and would most assuredly ruin it. Not to mention the whole carry thing would make it as laughable as seeing a flawless emblem is now. It WOULD happen. Pretending otherwise is foolish. "Give me my loot. I'm entitled!"
