Gosh...I watched the whole video and her argument was essentially "we're forced to be racist because America is racist against us!" How...how?! Ugh.

Wdymsiw lol america is basically racist.
-
So being racist is going to stop the racism? That lady needs some logic with a side of common sense.
-
Edited by blade329: 6/23/2017 10:57:16 PMWTF does that mean? The whole country is racist? That same country that elected a Black man as the most powerful man in the world.......TWICE? I think you are basically a fool.
-
One doesn't disprove the other. The same country that elected Obama elected Trump and his wall.
-
Edited by blade329: 6/26/2017 5:14:00 PMIt's such a loaded statement. What exactly does it mean? We are all racists? Uh, no. We have some racists? ..........Okay, Who doesn't? Most of us are racists? If that were true, then Obama never gets elected even once.

We are a country that for the better part of 350 years had an entire society that was based upon the systematic abuse and exploitation of African- and Native Americans. We still have entire institutional, social and cultural STRUCTURES that had their roots in that systematic exploitation, and persist as legacies of that time. I don't GIVE a rat's ass whether some person is individually racist or bigoted. What I CARE about are social and institutional structures that either give that bigot the power to act upon their prejudices without repercussion..... As for this thread as a whole? Tucker Carlson is a weasel. He's never going to invite someone on who can competently argue any viewpoint other than his own. Instead he's going to parade an endless succession of empty suits, that he can line up.....mow down....so that he and his audience can pat one another on the back about how "right" they all are. Because they keep protecting themselves from ever having what they believe competently challenged. ....or those same structures that pressure people who aren't individually prejudiced to behave in ways that have those same consequences.
-
So, you are lumping 350 years as a whole to apply to America today? That's like calling today's Christians murdering Crusaders because of what they did 100's of years ago. Spain, France, Mexico, England, Africa, etc, all had slavery. It's not like the rest of the world was a shining beacon hope while we were the lone evil doers.
...social and institutional structures
I try asking people all the time, which institution is holding them back? I never get an answer. So, I'll ask. Which government institution is holding back people of color and how? Department of Education? FDA? FBI? Firefighters? I'm Latino, I can't point to a single one that has held me back. The only thing that screwed me up were my bad decisions in life. Tucker Carlson is not the point. I don't even listen to the guy. In the world of tabloid journalism, these guys will usually have on people that are less smarter than they are. It should be noted though that this woman is/was a college professor.

Edited by TheArtist: 6/26/2017 8:13:32 PMMissed the point by a time zone. As for being Latino, when did your family come to this country. Because, with all due respect, my family has been here going all the way back to the 18th Century and had to contend with the multi-generational trauma that was both slavery and segregation. Did you know that an estimated 24 million Africans DIED in the slave trade. That's One in Every THREE....DEAD. Either from disease, injury or being worked to death. One. In. Three.

My grandfather came here in the late 20's. Became a citizen. My father was born here in the 30's. We've been here a while. I'm not trying to lessen anyone's suffering nor make excuses for it. I'm simply looking at how things are now, in response to another post. I'm not disputing that. It was a horrible thing. A blight on our history.
-
You can't understand how things are now, without understanding how things WERE. Because how things WERE is how we got to how things are NOW. "The Past isn't dead. It isn't even past." ----William Faulkner. If one alcoholic or drug addict can have traumatic effects that rattle around in families for generations....WTF do you think living in a society that is committed and ORGANIZED on the principle of exploiting you. Treating you as if you are sub-human...keeping you poor-and-powerless while shaming you for your own degredation and blaming you for all the wider society's problems..... ....will have on families? Especially when this goes on for a DOZEN generations.
-
Right back at ya....He also said “You cannot swim for new horizons until you have courage to lose sight of the shore.”
-
No it's not.
-
-
america is racist yes.
-
Please, let's hear the details. What tells you that America is "bascially racist"? What exactly does that mean, by the way?
-
-
She's essentially using mental gymnastics to excuse her own prejudices through collectively blaming all White people for what the previous generations of White people did under Jim Crow and Slavery.
-
"We have no choice. Unfortunately because of RACIST AMERICA not giving us a voice, we're forced to unify ourselves..." -______________________-

You hit the nail on the head, right there.
-
I was paraphrasing lol.
-
I know.
