I have a friend who moved here from Poland when he was only 3.
He never really had much, with his mother working around the house and looking after him, as he has no other family in the country, and his dad working 6 days a week, 11 hours a day.
He works on minimum wage, and can barely support the family.
They sometimes run out of electricity and heating, and he's never had internet access in his life.

The only argument there is: get a better job.
-
He can't. There's a job crisis here in Wales right now.
-
Oh, in Wales. Pretty sure this thread is talking about the US. Your economy is different from ours. That being said, there should still be a way for them to support themselves. Maybe everyone in the household needs to work.

Edited by ēłøH tïhŠ: 6/22/2017 2:57:44 PMThere's only the three of them there. The son is in education, and as aforementioned, there aren't many jobs, and also somebody needs to look after the house.
-
It is possible to look after the house and work a job.
-
No. They don't own a car, either, and there aren't any bus stops within a mile.
-
Sounds like they're in trouble then. Also, min wage is only designed to support a single person. It's not designed to support a household by itself. That's why more than one person needs to work in a multi person household if they are only getting min wage.

Yeah. It's sad, however, that someone can live the same off benefits. I've told them this, but the government are pretty xenophobic. Won't grant them it. However, it's funny that the government takes 40% all of your life savings when you die, and it goes into building unnecessary bridges, changing roads unnecessarily, and not into helping the people who provide them with labour and contribute positively to society.
-
Why isn't the mother working?
-
She has to look after the family, as he isn't trusted to be home alone.
-
So they choose to remain in poverty
-
Min wage doesn't fix this.
-
Min wage is the problem.
-
You Sir are incorrect. Minimum Wage was created solely to keep people in poverty. If minimum wage goes up so does everything else and then we are right back where we started saying we need to raise it again. Just a dog chasing it's own tail.

Yeah, I agree, it does. But it still is their problem.
