Gary, or Ghaul, is only the Red Legion Commander. If he worked with a cabal leader to overthrow, he(Gary) might have a promotion, but not be the emperor.

Did you read the article. Mark Noseworthy, Project lead of Destiny 2 says that ;
Long before the Cabal took aim at Earth, the Consul advised Ghaul in his military coup of the Cabal unseating and exiling the prior Emperor named Calus.
Ghoul lead a military coup against the Cabal Emperor and unseated and exiled him. That's sounds a lot like he took the Emperor's place. Personally, I'm not a fan of this development ( I would have preferred it if Ghaul was just 1 of the many Canal General's and that the Cabal had bigger and badder threats that we have yet to face ) but it's hard to argue against this piece of info when it comes from the 2 people in charge of Destiny 2 ( Luke Smith and Mark Noseworthy ).

Did you not read the article? He overthrew the emperor and took his place.

Edited by NobodyJustBrad: 6/12/2017 7:18:11 PMNope. All it said was he unseated and exiled him. Nothing about taking his place.
-
It didnt say he took his place...
-
Do you even know what usurp means? It means to take the place of something
-
Except they didn't say he usurped the previous Emperor. They said he unseated and exiled him.
-
What else do you do after a coup? Give him the seat back?
-
That would be a good plot twist x) and Ghaul is like: "I just wanted to see the look on your face *laughs* lol did you really think I was gonna steal the throne? *laughs even more* oh god you got pranked Bro!"
