That's why I used to love using sunsinger, before the nerf. Back during the "Firebolt Heyday", I always thought, doesn't anyone know how good Solar Grenades, with ToF & VF, are? As a Control player, I got so many multi-kills, by tossing a Solar Grenade on a group, capping a zone. While Firebolts would take you down to a sliver, and burn for 14 seconds; Solars would kill, if they didn't escape fast enough, and they burned for just as long. Just hit them with a solar, and shoot them all once, and the burn would finish them off. Or, kill supers with them, by jumping over their heads, back-n-forth, dropping solars down on them. I don't use my warlock as much now, but as a hunter main, I've had solars thrown at me recently, and you could almost stand inside of it until it burned out, without dying.

  • Two things: first, yeah solars really took a hit. I use them sometimes but they do such trash damage now and give to wind up. Second: I swear, I don't understand where people get 14 seconds. How do you come to the conclusion that firebolts used to burn for 14 seconds? They burned for 5. Touch of flame burns for 2.5 seconds, and then vikings fineral did slightly more than double that. It resulted in 5 seconds of burn.

  • Solar grenades are still very much effective. Maybe not as easy as just tossing 1 at the zone and calling it a day, but there are still plenty of potatoes who cant figure out how to escape if you toss 2 or 3 at the zone :)

    Eh... they aren't as effective as they once were. And the DoT artifact makes them virtually useless. Also, I prefer to play skirmish, as the chaos of 6s is too much for me. No thank you, I'd rather not be teamshot/solosmashed/shotgunned from behind again) So I go against some pretty sweaty players, usually not those "potatoes" you mentioned. And I know that skilled you tubers use solar renades effectively too but there are just other builds that are more effective. Don't get me wrong though solar grenades plus vex mythoclast is a blast, but it isn't the best. Also, it takes longer to toss three solar grenades than to just gun someone down. And you have to be in radiance, where you could just use stormcaller instead.

  • Oh no, I completely get that. It's very playstyle dependant, and I completely agree that solars are better left to 6's. 3v3 game modes are usually too fast paced for solars to be very useful unless the opposing team likes to group together and stand still(what are the odds, amirite?). On a related note, I almost never see anyone actually using the DoT artifact. It's usually always Gheleon, Skorri, or Jolder tbh. It'd probably be more abundant, I suspect, if they had un-nerfed some of Thorn's burn when RoI came out.

  • Yeah that's true. It's just when I do use solars and someone is using the artifact, it frustrates me because my super essentially loses 1/3 of its crowd control power.

    Heh, yeah I could see why that'd be upsetting . I haven't played PvP on this account, but on my primary whenever I use sunsinger it's always double solars because I generally only play 6's(I'm pretty trashy in 3's and rumble). But it definitely relies heavily on that crowd control power, or you're pretty screwed.

  • I used to use fusions too, but then they became meta. And I always true to avoid the meta. Still burning fusions is very effective when I go try hard for trials.

  • Understandable. As much as I dislike getting stuck, the allure of fusion grenades is obvious and I'd be lying if I said I didn't switch to them from time to time just to try to keep up.
