Old Red Death simply jump started natural regen. Taking any damage at all cancelled the effect. Same problem that Life Steal had. With a flat return as it gives now it is [i]actually[/i] able to counter DoT effects and increases survivablity when taking on multiple opponents. It's more versatile.
Yes the old one just jumpstarted the regen but it restarted both health and shields at the same time for quicker recovery. It also seemed to stop most DoT that was inflicted from thorn user or a lucky post mortem incendiary knife that would normally kill you. I'm still using the gun for its range but it just doesn't feel like red DEATH anymore. More like red booboo...
I italicized "actually" because it was a misconception that Red Death could counter DoT. It didn't. Because of what I said it only healed until the next tick of damage and then stopped completely. Since ticks are so fast at best it barely healed anything and a worst it literally healed nothing.
