I'm just confused as to what the difference between a smg and a low impact auto rifle would be.

Typically, an SMG in games would like fire faster and have more bullets. More reliable to hip fire most of the time. Idk, but I'm picturing Halo 3 odst' SMG. If that helps at all
-
So a better low impact auto rifle?
-
Eh. Functionally, not really. The range on them is much shorter typically in games. Extremely fast fire rate, high bullet count, low low damage(I assume) I guess the closest comparison you could make is SMG is to auto rifle as side arms are to hand cannons
-
Well the archetypes of auto rifles already change in fire rate, impact, mag size, and range. So and smg would be an even lower impact auto rifle. The way that Bungie has separated the guns in destiny makes smg's a new archetype more than a whole new weapon class.
-
Functionally not at all. Have you ever used an SMG in any other game at all? There is also the fact that we still know little to nothing about how they have changed weapons in D2. SMG, in games, are meant to be very short range, hip fire, high rounds per minute, low damage per bullet. Auto rifles, though having a large variety of types, typically work better at longer ranges, though still meant to be close to mid range combat. Less bullets fire, but they pack a little more of a punch. Put simply, your more likely to succeed using an SMG in shotgun/sidarm range, especially if you hip fired.
-
So they would work well in shotguns and side arm range and low impact. Doesn't make since since you would die to shotguns and sidearms 100 of the time
-
The thing is the amount of bullets you can get out would be what made it worth it.
-
Not if you died before you fired 10 shots
-
First of all, with a gun like an SMG, those shot would likely be out far too quickly. They are meant to be bullet hose of the bullet hose. Secondly, I'm not going to argue D1 balance in concerns of a gun type non existent in it
-
Just saying and destiny 2 balancing strategies will be just like what we got now nerf nerf nerf and never just bring a counter to an op weapons level nope always nerf
-
You say as the crew working on D1 since the TTK has been a skeleton crew. They have had the full developer force on D2, and I can guarantee after the mess year 2 and 3 of D1, they aren't going to have the same skeleton crew on D2, if one at all
-
Hope you are right because D1 was a botched job I truly hope the learned from this. I guess when we see the first sandbox adjustments we will know what direction the game will go in
-
I'm sure we will. Every expects better from Bungie since they made Halo, but people forget, it's not the same Bungie. Some new employees. Some experienced. Some not. Given how much help they are getting with the sequel, I'm sure it'll be great
-
Hope so and it won't take us long to find out. now that we the players know what doesn't work. Hopefully the players learned nerfing op weapons isn't a solution hopefully we have learned to ask for buff to weapons to counter that op weapon that's how it should be
-
You forget what kind of community your talking about. Your talking about a community that got NLB a Nerf.
-
Yea but now bungie knows that we are dumb lol so hopefully they will ignore all that nonsense. PR doesn't belong in development
-
Lol, I hope so. The forum community of any game always seem so...... Illogical? Or is that trying to sound too nice?
-
To nice we are stupid say it truthfully lol actually insane since we make the same mistake over and over and expect different results which is the definition of insanity
-
Hahaha. Well here's to hoping that Bungie DID learn a lesson.
-
Cheers 🍻

I had an idea and so far a few people told me that it was a great idea. As a pvp finale event for d1 they should revert every single op weapon back to its peak and throw them all in a special playlist and let us see which gun is truly god worthy lol
-
It would be fun but we all know everyone would use a Vex mythoclast pre nerf
-
Idk we got some different abilities now that could be helpful against that shade step in particular
-
I played against og mythoclast, it melts faster than you could react
