I just built my first pc as well and I had a very small budget and I went with a 6th gen i3 and 8 gigs of ddr4. Things still lightning fast for school work and such. I would suggest a 1070 or something. Unless of course you'll be doing intense 4K all the time.

I plan on being 4k ready but I'm not even buying parts for about another month. So I got plenty of time to think things through.
