The main issue was that people automatically switched to secondary weapons as their primary weapon. That by definition is incorrect. We should be primarily using our primary weapons It boils down to TTK. Secondary weapons have a higher TTK than primary weapons, so people naturally gravitate towards those. Trying to land multiple shots on a moving target, while moving yourself is difficult, so we naturally move towards what is easiest which is more damage with fewer shots. Throw in unpredictable internet connections and the frustration mounts. People want faster TTK against their foes, but more survivability for themselves. Part of what I enjoy most about Destiny PvP is the fact that I can get hit, and survive - most mulitplayer games aren't like that. If you get the first hit you win because they are dead by the second hit.

What hes saying is your not punished for going against the meta!! Not skill, but bring punished. He's saying it actually improved gameplay of others. It never FORCED you to use a certain weapon.

The meta did force you to use a certain weapon if not a certain weapon archetype. The best counter to a shotgun was another shotgun and whoever drew first won. The best counter to a sniper was another sniper. Whoever got the shot off first won. It became "I hate snipers" - "avoid open areas" = run into shot gunners. "I hate shot gunners" - "avoid close tight spaces" = get sniped. That's obviously not 100%, but it presents a problem. Most people found the easiest solution to be "If you can't beat them, join them" and they adopted snipers or shotguns. Only those with great skill could play outside of the meta and be successful. The average player was forced to go along which is inherently what people are arguing against. EDIT: By taking away the special they are removing that crutch. eventually something else will become the new Meta - people just need to find it. There will never be a pure PvP where people can play whatever weapon they want and be successful. There will always be certain guns, or certain gun types that are more successful than others based on TTK.

"Best counter to a Shotgun was a Shotgun." Wrong. It is the worst counter because you are forcing yourself to tango with every opponent's killbox while trying to fit them iside yours, so to speak. It is dangerous and risky. It's not a counter, just the same meta. I made a post/thread awhile back about how people who deluded themselves that Shotgun was the only Meta were in fact perpetuating their own defeat. By forcing themselves to use a weapon that kills in the same niche as everyone else, they were increasing the likelihood of getting 1HKO'd. Fusions and Sidearms, or just plain movement, were the best counter to Shotguns. Snipers however, as I said earlier, did in fact force everyone to try Sniping. But Shotgun incubated a whole ecosystem of other weapons, with Shotguns on top but small fish [Fusions/Sidearms] that could kill them and the next biggest fish [Snipers] suddenly felt a lot less pressure and become less obsolete.

I never advertised myself to be some MLG PvPer, I'm 100% average. The, "You suck 1v1 me bro" argument here isn't going to work. I get it, by taking away special ammo they have truly nerfed shotguns. The range nerfs did very little except modify players' approaches. By taking away the ammo, they limited the amount of kills you could potentially get. In the long run you will be fine. You will adapt your play style and continue to be successful in crucible. Even your own numbers suggest that the ammo nerf hasn't had a terrible impact on your stats. Change is good in the long run, but no one ever likes it initially.

  • I find I agree with you overall. I like the fact that we are pushed to learn different ways to improve our game play.
