It pretty much goes through multiple targets if they are in line. Basically I always ask my enemies if they mind standing in a straight line as I only have one shot with my golden gun. Most times they don't mind at all, because they know a super shouldn't be wasted. I find the taken are the most ignorant however, since when I finally get a handful of taken psions in a line they bloody multiplied and are running rampid. Truly like the old saying goes "don't count your taken psions until their abilities have been stopped with a suppression grenade".
