I find it fun, but it is way too grindy and lengthy for it. Run around gathering resources for 3 hours just to see one raptor too high of a level and lose it all. It can take up to DAYS to tame certain creatures, and while I like to work for my stuff in survival games, spending 4 hours on a dire wolf that will probably only last me two days doesn't catch my interest.
[spoiler]I did play quite a bit of it for a time, got a fabricated sniper at level 82. But this new content drop seems pretty bad, with tech tier boots letting you ram through stone walls (that take hours of grinding to build) is ridiculous. That and the god awful bullet sponges that are called bosses in this game really piss me off. I love boss fights, and I think they're important. This game just shits on them.[/spoiler]

I've only been playing for a week or so & 90% offline just to learn the ropes so it has been a little more forgiving!

It'll be forgiving solo, yes. But trust me, PvP servers have ASSHOLES. I've been to a server where a tribe dominated so profoundly, they had a "daily tax" of 100 gunpowder from all known tribes. If not, well RIP anything you try to start. I also played with a guy before who would find low levels, tranq them, lock them in a cage, and force them to eat his fecies.
