Better be playing on Classic. Anyway, yes. In Fallout New Vegas (first fallout game is played, I was really bad, knew nothing, and was focusing too much on non-combat skills for early game to be easy). So me with 60 speech is getting murdered repetitively on a lone road. They tell me I need to make it to some motel with a dinosaur outside. I go through like 3 hours of running from bandits and monsters that pushed me off the main road, finally reaching the motel. I'm like "thank god. I'm going to buy a room and sleep so hard." Then the game froze while loading the inside of the motel. No auto saves existed until before I'd started the road journey. Oh, and that one time my friend pinned me down and deleted my 100% complete Super Mario Galaxy 2 save. Which I did all over again.
better be playing on classic
...I uh...I started on casul...I know what classic is and I didn't want to take the risk. Part of why I wanted a new save was to try classic though. Probably wouldn't have stuck with it. I mean I like a difficult game as much as the next guy but I'm not crazy.
if it's any consolation, conquest is on classic though. I'll probably regret that decision later...
• Casual removes ALOT of the experience. Many turns can now just be solved with "eh, ill get this guy back after the mission, so he can go do this".
Im currently attempting classic conquest lunatic, trust me that, is in fact hell.
• If it's anything like XCOM Impossible I know I'll never be doing classic lunatic ;P

  •
classic conquest lunatic
Jesus Christ, you're a madman. How far have you gotten? Also yeah I know it removes some of the fun of the game but its basically the first one of these games that I've ever played... Figured it'd be better for beginners... (At least it's not Phoenix...)

  • And Id say the best version for beginners is normal classic. Sure casual is easier so you could say its better for beginners, but classic introduces you to how the series actually plays better. (If you ever play any fire emblem that came out before awakening classic is the only option (also the GBA games are freaking amazing, but they dont have the extensive support system of the new games)

  • Well, I mean, I have one of the GBA ports for the 3DS (sacred stones) because of the ambassador program. I've rarely played it but it's what sparked my interest in fire emblem in the first place. Didn't play very much like I said, and when I did I didn't really pay attention to what I was doing (which is why I'm counting Fates as a proper intro to the game series). Hm...you might be right though. What fun is a strategy/RPG game if you remove a component like permadeath? It'd be like dark souls with easier bosses. I can't say I'll redo the birthright save (I've already made a bit of progress again)...but I'll run through conquest and revelation with it. See how far I get.

  • Fire emblem 7 (the blazing sword) is the best gba one (you have fire emblem 8), its got a solid story, balanced difficulty, and Hector (also Lyn, but she isnt as amazing as Hector)(you dont know why thats great yet, but you will when you play it)

  • Sounds ominous. I gotta get back into that one then...

  • Also on the GBA games I actually do death runs. Anyone who dies is dead. Well for the most part. I give myself some leeway near the beginning of the game (before reaching some point like chapter 10) where I might reset for characters I like.

  • Well I was talking about 7 not 8 with those details. 8 is good too, and also easier. It also had the god among men: Seth, who you get in the first level and he will remain one of your best units up until endgame.

  • Birthrights probably the worst one to play casual on too, because its noticeably easier than the other ones. Hell, its probably the easiest fire emblem. Awakening would take that spot due to how easy it is to get OP units in that but the reinforcements are bullshit in that game and lead to so many resets

  •
probably the easiest fire emblem
...is it bad if that's why I got it (I read it was more "beginner friendly") I probably would have more fun on classic though (hence why I'm gonna do it on my run through conquest). I can agree with that (even if, judging from my past playthrough, I probably would've gotten most of the avatar's family killed off during the opera house battle due to poor planning...)

    1. Use effie, she is one of the best tanks in the game 2. Give felicia a flame shuriken (or her personal item, felicias plate if you can manage to get one) if you get one. Shes your only shuriken user in early game conquest so you kind of still need her around even if you dont have one, but her damage is pretty low without one, but amazing with one. 3. Do all the missions you can. You might want to try and skip some, but trust me you will need the exp. 4. Dont try to use arthur he sucks. 5. Reclass the dark mage "odin" into a samurai, he sucks as a mage but after you reclass him and get him past the initial transition of not having the correct stats and low rank weapons, hes a godly swordmaster. (Giving him a forged killing edge gives him a consistant 50% crit chance as a swordmaster because his personal skill makes it so if he is using a forged weapon with a name at least 12 characters long, he gets crit +10) 6. Make sure to train up Keaton. Both him (and his daughter if you get her) are amazing offensively with the beaststone+ and amazing defensively with the beastrune 7. CONSERVE. YOUR. MONEY. This might be hard to get used to after birthright, but in conquest you get shit for money. Dont waste it. 8. If you can, wait until a unit is level 20 before master sealing them 9.Conserve rescue staves (or any festal staves). They are both very useful and very rare in conquest 10. This one might be obvious, but take it slow. One hasty move can -blam!- you over easy 11. If you fail a level and try again the next day, go back to your castle before attempting again because the castle will have updated and items you get through the lottery shop (or units finding them on the ground) or stat boosts for certain units might help you beat the level. 12. This might seem weird, but ALWAYS use the mess hall. Those little +1's and +2's can actually save you. 13. Make sure to feed Lilith as much as possible. It will help you with the invasion missions and she will occasionaly give gold bars worth 300 gold (thats not much but its better than nothing) 14. Dont reclass Corrin. Keep them on the nohr royal classline. 15. On chapter 20, make sure to get all of the chests. One of them has the only dragonstone+ in the game, which gives either Corrin or Kana better stat boosts than the original one, with the most notable being a whopping +9 defense Thats the best low-spoiler list I can think of Edit: make sure to get conquest digitally too. It will only be 20 dollars, and you will be able to recieve these items for having 2 paths on one game cartridge: Dread scroll: reclasses any unit into a dread fighter (you get two of these) Dragon herbs: increases all of one units stats by 1 when used Boots: increases a units movement by 1 (give this to effie, as boots are the only way to offset the low movement of generals, as movement is class locked and cant increase without them.)

Well I bought it digitally already so no worries there... In fact I tried taking it as slow as possible during "a dragons decree" to think out my plan of attack. Result: everyone died; not because I took it slow but because I'm an idiot and got cornered. Thank god for L+R+START
i also started a classic run of birthright. Feels better to run through it actually. There's a sense of real risk...I might actually just have this be my main playthrough difficulty.
• Well I normally do resets, not death runs (reset the level if someone I wanted to stay alive dies). Thats how most people play I think, im pretty sure there was a level in conquest where at that point I had reset so many times that I accidently just pressed the button combo to reset when I wanted to pause.

  • Haha yeah I was thinking that it would definitely be a good idea to just toss in a save at the start and then use the reset if shit hits the fan... All this talk of classic mode makes me want to go back and switch to normal classic... That one opera house level is what'll be the death of me though. Barely made it out after getting the dragon vein...

  • You dont need an extra save unless you save over a big mistake. You can reset back to your title screen during any level by pressing L+R+select and just load your save at the beginning of the level you were on.
