Hunters turn themselves into a viscous gas. Upon entering this form, since they're basically a gas, the air behind them from their dive propels them in the direction they were heading. However, due to the super high viscosity of the gas, they retain most of their core humanoid shape throughout the maneuver.
If you want to gloss over the space magic part of turning into a gas and back, basically Hunters spike the core temperature of both themselves and their gear so quickly that they sublimate (and evaporate, in the case of blood and other fluids). And at the end of the maneuver they cool their gear and themselves so rapidly that they undergo deposition (and condensation, in the case of blood and other fluids).
I completely made this up, but it's plausible in the sense that ripping holes in space time with your bare hands and traveling through them is also plausible.
Edited by filwilliamson: 1/15/2017 7:32:26 PMThat actually makes a lot of sense. Maybe they increase their body temp. In a similar way that they ignite their void light in void wall grenades.

Actually going into a void would create a lot of energy which would turn to heat

This makes so much sense though.
SCIENCE
This should really be a thing.

Great now everytime I shadestep I'm turning into a fart... Thanks.
-
this is metal as -blam!-. I love it

You dive, and your Light turns you into void energy momentarily, then turns you back
-
So when a Nightstalker Shadesteps he momentarily becomes void dust? So it's like a transformation then?
-
Yeah. Void dust is apparently less dense than the surrounding air, so I can float for a short time. Of course, your Ghost ressurects you
-
So nightstalkers are transformers and transformers are nightstalkers
-
Hell yeah. Got it on the spot
