Is Elite Dangerous worth the price? It looks really cool but I fear it might get boring quickly

It depends on who you're playing with. If you're by yourself, you'll find an empty, quiet galaxy. If you're a part of the community, you'll find a thriving galaxy full of cooperation, politics, science, and war.

Personally I find the controls on console too restrictive, but I know that's just me

It has its lows, but get it next sale and you will find a game that with a high skill floor, ceiling, and curve. But if you make it through, you will be well rewarded
