You know, I've read that theres actually some psychology backing this sort of idea. Supposedly humans actually feel more uncomfortable when they are shown something that they understand is a face, but does not have all of the features that a human face does, or has these features in a deformed manner. Movies play with this all the time. We naturally expect something with features we recognize as being face-like to have a set of eyes, and when those eyes aren't there, it makes us uncomfortable.

 • Yeah, I always thought these faceless people from Doctor Who were pretty creepy.

 • Definitely true. It's also creepy when humans encounter something that is extremely realistic, but not quite all there. Like an android that looks real, and has some limited programming of facial expressions and reactions to people. I've seen some creepy asian androids or whatever the right term would be.

 • Yeah I learned in class that distorting the human face makes people uncomfortable. If you only have one eye or replace someone's eyes with their mouth in Photoshop, that creeps people out.

 • The uncanny valley, right?

 •
The uncanny valley, right?
It was a while ago, so I only remember the substance and not the label. But with a quick search, that sounds like that may be exactly what I'm talking about.
