I might be wrong when I say this but can't you just goto the exotic wall thing and buy the year two version with legendary marks? Or is that just for weapons?

You can only buy the updated version of year 1 items you already had that way and some exceptions like the gjally and icebreaker won't allow that. Definitely won't work on a year 2.
