I know I'm in the minority here. I hated Rogue One. And I've seen them all in the theater. Yes I'm not young. [spoiler] Everyone dying ruined it for me. [/spoiler]

If they survived it wouldn't fit canon. Mon mothma (probably butchered that) says that many bothan spies died to get the plans.

If they all survived or even just some of them, it wouldn't matter to canon in the slightest. The canon would have been completely fine regardless of the outcome of the Rogue One crew's fates. And just as an FYI, the Bothans were involved with the Death II, not the first one, that's what the "many Bothans died" line was said about.

It wouldn't make sense if they kept them alive at the end. It shown what it took to steal the plans.

Not every one of the characters cared about the rebellion, they just of soon could have disappeared instead of being killed off.

I'd rather have them die, than just disappearing. They are not in the next movie. It's better to have them die for something.
