My question is, if the characters are going to be left behind, why should I even bother putting more hours into it? I know Bungie has not come out and confirm this through official channels, but they haven't debunk those rumors either, which most times would be the case whenever false rumors are going around.

Why would anyone play this game just for the sake of his character? Doesn't make any sense You have a character to play a game not a game to play a character

Normally I would totally agree with you, but that is not the way the game was marketed, become a Legend and all that. If Destiny is really a 10 road map, then I'd really like it for the character(s) I'd started that trip with to be there at the end of that road.

If D2 is a fresh start, D1 will very likely still be playable in its final form.

Because destiny 2 is probably about 9 months away.

Think of it like a company knows they're gonna lay you off in 6 months, do you think they'll tell you now or wait until the day before. There won't be any solid info on d2 until at Q2 next year. They may not even mention carryover until after that.
