They kind of did that with last years SRL with all the racing gear. Hell, the taken gear was easier to get when you spent the money on the silver.

I had full sets of race gear. From drops & doing bounties. No pay wall.

Then you had luck, because I played almost every day last SRL event and ended up with one set of the available gear. I know I couldn't be the only one who had that kind of luck.

Dude, you were supposed to have the gear you already own in your inventory so the game wouldn't give you dupes. The racing set boxes had smart RNG. I ended up with all three sets by the end of the event.

And I always did. I cleared out normal non SRL gear so I would have only the racing gear. Tried four times to get the rabbit gear, and I think I got it at the very end.
