Yes i have heard about this. I also remember an old chemistry professor talking about a day where we can use the unique Carbon atom to create a source of limitless energy. While this is not it, it is still well onto that path towards a viable and long lasting energy source.

I'm waiting for the day when airplanes contain carbon scrubbers today can clean up the atmosphere while flying around. That's some future eco friendly shit
