It's not really an ARG if everything comes down to tine locks. Seriously, first there's a two month wait. This leads into getting absolutely no new information. Then we have another week long wait. If this culminates in a Sombra reveal at Blizzcon, Blizzard will have just wasted so many gamers time on a pointless ARG.

I like to think it kept us busy until they reveal her.

It actually did give us information and slight clues. For example the Bastion Morse code on Dorado that led to the lumerico.mx website

The timegate led to nothing helpful. All the timegate did was lead to another ARG. Blizzard could have officially dropped the art for Sombra. Or even just talked about her. Instead gamers waited two months for Blizzard to once again have us dance for their enjoyment.

Countdown finishes and suddenly it just says "I'm in". Instead Bastion was compromised and info surrounding Lumerico and their dealings have surfaced. As well as the fact that a newer, bigger plant is set to be released on the 1st of November. Sombra is speculated to be tied with the Los Muertos gang, and she could embody said gangs beliefs. If so we can get a more revealing insight on the lore and relationship the los muertos gang has with the entirety of Mexico. Blizzard could have taken the lazybway out and notbdo anything, or even more dastardly, release solid info about Sombra ahead of Blizzcon and devoid of any and all back story.

The point of an ARG is for gamers to unlock stuff. It's not an ARG if there are locked-in release dates for info. This would mean Sombra isn't tied into the ARG and the ARG is just a lore thing.
-
As far as I can tell you, Blizzard hasn't officially called it an ARG, and besides with a highly competitive hero focused game like Overwatch, people shouldn't have a better advantage just because that have unlocked Sombra and others haven't. I, and I can imagine many others, believed that the "ARG" was purely for a lore perspective, and Sombra will be eventually released into the wild. It would unbalance the game if she were held back just because some people didn't follow the ARG since day one.

But it is an ARG from how it is set up. It's a game to unlock the next part. But Blizzard has taken that and mutilated it beyond recognition. This is very obviously an ARG. Just an ATG in which the player is given the illusion of control.

Well Sombra does congratule us for "making it this far" and "giving us something to play with" AND "testing us". So there's that.
