Why wouldn't you use the past as a reference for future improvements ? This is done in just about everything in real life.
I'm not sure if I'm just misunderstanding something here or this is just some super shitty logic.

Lol no its ok. Maybe I just think of Y1 as early crucible and not post HoW. Which is how most see when they say that (?) All I'm saying is (from my reference) is that you can't compare today's balance to Y1 because there was no actual PVP balance in place pre 1.1.1 which didn't happen until 6 months in.

I understand now. I think when most people mention year 1 when they're talking about weapon balance, they're talking about when each individual weapon type had their own "moments of glory." For example, when I say I want year 1's pvp back, I want: - AR's to be as strong as pre nerf suros as well as pre nerfed doctorine archetype. - Thorn should two tap, TLW should hit 111's while ads, Hawkmoon should be complete unnerfed, and legendary hc's should perform the same as they did during HoW in general. - Low RoF PR's should be able to two burst as consistently as they did during HoW. They technically still can but it's hard due to the stability blanket nerfs to AR's and PR's in the TTK patch. Low RoF PR's have always performed pretty well for their archetype so those are already in a good spot. - Scouts have always been in a good spot as well, maybe some handling buffs could help. - Subclasses should all go back to when they performed the best as well. However, keep it to where Sunbreakers can get sniped out of their super. On top of that, add back sniping people out of other supers as well like it used to be. - Buff shotguns, snipers, and fusions back to their best times. Sidearms are pretty damn good right now, maybe a little stability buff would help going against unnerfed shotguns. That's just my two cents summed up. IMO, that's the best way to achieve diversity and balance at the same time. I'm sure I can speak for some others when they mention year 1 crucible was better than currently.
